Sent Messages Can't Be Deleted

When I select a message i sent and select delete, it confirms the deletion but it still appears in my sent folder - it is not deleted.

'Message Center' seems to work more like email than the old PM system. When you delete a PM it moves to a Trash folder where you can permanently delete it.
Why it's still showing in the Sent folder I haven't a clue unless it's a time issue where after a set time it stops showing up.
You can go in to the trash folder and delete a PM permanently.

I'm mixed on this 'feature'. When I want to delete something I want it gone. I've also had numerous people ask me over the years 'I deleted a PM I need, how do I get it back!?'

I just tried this. Selecting messages in Sent and then pressing Delete, did "move" them to trash. I had to go into the Trash, select them again and "Delete Permanently". After confirming, they are gone.

Thank both of you! The work around deletes some old now irrelevant messages. It appears that the version upgrade reconstituted most, but not all, of the messages I have ever sent. Similar to the way iOS 17.5 resurrected old long "deleted" photos.
