Many times, we are unable to return the specific issue while it is happening. The most important thing is mitigating and bringing servers back online. Analyzing log files takes place afterwards. This outage was caused by an abnormal amount of traffic, probably a DDOS attack, and Cloudflare couldn't reach the vBulletin Cloud servers. Even though we use Cloudflare as part of the mitigation for this specific issue, the network wasn't able to keep up. Our network operations center recovered the servers, redirected invalid traffic, and brought vBulletin Cloud back online as quickly as possible.
