Why?

On this site, even more than other sites, I want to be as invisible as possible. This website is under surveillance by government folks. It is considered fringe right-wing by the people in power. Given the current political situation I think we need to respect the user's privacy.

Cookies are used as trackers by 3rd parties, like the ones in the AG's office. If it is deliberate that brings the website into question. I hope it is just and oversight.

This is a recent-ish change that causes problems with staying logged on to post. It has confused me for months. I figured it out today.

Please disable the cookie requirement ASAP.

How exactly do you expect Calguns to keep users logged in without using cookies?

Tracking browsers is a prerequisite to implementing such functionality. Disabling cookies will not stop the government from running surveillance on you but will break all modern websites except the most basic ones like Wikipedia.

I do not stay logged on to any website. I keep no cookies. I save no browse history. I have no problems with any website, only this one.

Like just now, I had to log in three times, then reply with a quote. It would not let me reply in the normal way.

I see. I suggest temporarily opening an incognito window, signing into Calguns, making a post, and closing back out, with cookies enabled within the private session.

Google just lost a lawsuit over incognito mode being misrepresented. You can use incognito, they still track you. Incognito is a lie.

How about a Secure VPN? You're running some sort of anti-virus I would hope. I just started to use my Nortons Secure VPN feature. I thought it would be a pain in the rear, but it seems to be working ok.

As to your cookie issue, Almost Heaven is correct. There is no way to be 100% faceless on the internet and remain logged in. Cookies are what allow this to work.

Do you have face recognition on your phone? What about thumbprint? Voice recognition? Hey SIRI? Do you disable your GPS in your phone/car/iPad etc? What about your credit card or are you 100% cash only?

Nice try. None of that. I do not own a smart phone. I do not often carry my flip phone . I own no smart devices. My cars are all old and do not have the modern features. I use about 80% cash for day to day. I do not own a debt card.

To take the attitude that you are doing nothing wrong so who cares if they watch me is naive. What you have done in the past that is illegal now can be used against you now. The modern world is a minefield of laws and regulations. A smart person try's not to attract attention. Do not put anything on the internet that you would want to shared with everyone.

No, not a nice try at all. Just pointing out that being 100% anonymous living in a modern world, as reprehensible as some may view it, is a very tall order.

As far as having an attitude of not doing anything wrong and being ok with Big Brother is far from the truth. So, don't come in here with your piss n vinegar attitude with me. I don't care. I merely posted about a secure VPN and anti virus software which most have capabilites to keep you safe on the web. Also mentioned about all of the other ways they can/will/do track you.

You know as well as I do that if they want to, they can. Just a matter of managing what is out there.

But, back to your question about cookies, you can't stay logged in without the cookies. It's how you are recognized.

You post an article detailing how Google tracks incognito mode but evidently expect the normal profile on any browser to avoid tracking, honoring the cookie settings. Then, you cast doubt on people simply raising points.

Do what you want, but there is a difference between careful and unhinged.
