Previously moderated posts have reappeared -- wrecking my thread

    Hi all,

My big thread (you know the one) stopped working yesterday evening. New posts are being made but cannot be seen, as any attempt to go to the new pages displays stale posts. The thread index does not extend to the new posts being created.

I have pretty good records of this thread. On review, I discovered that posts that were previously moderated out have returned, for example this one on the very first page. I show that post was removed prior to 19 March 2023, but... it's back.

I believe this results in so many posts coming back from the dead, effectively inserting themselves into the queue, that new ones have shifted outside the visible range. Maybe this happened after a policy change, a partial recovery from backup, or something else, I have no idea.

Any ideas on how to handle this would be appreciated. I have seen this behavior before... but this time I have a better handle on the phenomenology. Thanks.

Well, yeah, it could be your fault too.

Looks like work is in progress. Newer posts have reappeared, though the old moderated posts remain -- guessing it got reindexed but not fully restored. Good turnaround time, though.

Is this forum wide, or just this thread?

          Trust me.
The moderators didn't ruin your thread.

It also affected the "opposition" troll thread last night, but that one recovered first -- and I don't have good records of it. A short thread where the discrepancy only totals a few posts would probably never notice the problem.

With the thread reindexed, there appear to be > 100 posts that had been moderated out, but mysteriously returned. That will do it, since there are only 40 posts to a page.

We might also concern ourselves with why trolls feel like throwing 100 crap posts into a single thread, but that problem is more endemic.

I have never thought to take notes on my own comments and threads to be able to compare to what may or may not happen in the future. I can't help.
