As I'm sure you all know we've had some instances of the site slowing down and even outages in the past two days.
Some of you may have noticed that Tapatalk(TT) isn't working as well.
Yes, they are connected.
Late Saturday night I installed the latest update to the TT plug in, ever since we've been experiencing Denial of Service Attack type of issues however they are NOT malicious.
What appears to be happening is that the new version is essentially trying to download every page of the site for the TT portal. It is sending periodic bursts of requests literally for all pages/threads/posts on the site.
Obviously this is not normal and we think it is due to the older version of PHP being used to run vBulletin 3.8.x conflicting with the new version of TT.
In response to this we have disabled TT for the moment and the host company is moving us to a new server over the next 24 hours. This may make pages slow to load sometimes but we should remain up during the transfer.
After it is complete we'll re-enable TT and verify that the problem is not continuing.
This also means it's time to start looking at updating the forum software again. I had hoped to do that earlier this year but between catching COVID, my Mom passing and other family issues it got delayed.
TL;DR: New Tapatalk version tried to copy the whole forum at once and screwed up the server, Tapatalk is down while we move to a new server to hopefully solve the problem and we're going to need to readdress updating the forum software.
