SUMMARY
The responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role is to research, design and test both new and existing components and assemblies applicable to the firearms industry, and provide general leadership and training for Junior Engineer
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
5-7 years experience in mechanical engineering design. (BA/BS degree in Engineering preferred)
Strong knowledge of GD&T principles in the ASME Y14.5 drafting standard
Strong CAD, drafting, and assembly skills (Experience with SolidWorks A MUST)
Familiar with CNC machining and manufacturing practices
Ability to work independently, lead a team, and effectively communicate with others
Proven leadership experience, effective time management skills, and strong professional skills
Experience in a shop environment (Basic ISO 9001 / AS9100 knowledge a plus) Experience with PDM (project data management) systems (SolidWorks PDM a plus)
Excellent Written and oral communication skills regarding design/model changes, and communicate corrective actions clearly and timely .
Committed to following safety and quality procedures
EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE/SYSTEMS
SolidWorks (and SolidWorks PDM a plus)
Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing for long periods of time; exposure to oils, grease, and noise
Must be able to lift 50lbs
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product design and development of new firearms systems and applications and existing product improvements
Generate and revision control of current CAD drawings and models, perform assembly models to ensure assembly tolerances are acceptable prior to manufacturing
Develop and manage bill of materials for blueprints
Develop and maintain document control for engineering related documents.
Perform inspection with precision measuring tools according to JL Billet standards and customer requirements
Collaborate with Programming and Quality on print issues or areas for improvements
Develop and provide training on SOP for engineering related procedures, including cross training of other employees.
Maintain and update work orders through ERP by ensuring correct prints/processes are being used
Initiate process improvements through fixture design, tooling upgrades, and other lean manufacturing practices
