Has DROS fee changed to per firearm for multiple purchases?

I'm guessing this is yet another anti-gun owner law change, but I was thinking about buying a couple bare 10/22 receivers from out of state...

FFL I used a few months ago (and was super inexpensive that time) said the DROS is now $25 per "firearm" rather than how it used to be you could do multiples in one DROS/transaction? Is this a new thing (FFL mentioned it was something went into effect around June-July this year?)?

The fees they are charging for the process also went up, but still not that bad (I know they have to keep the doors open!). I'm just not interested in subsidizing the government any more than necessary, and wondering if there's just a box that needs to be checked or something so that a couple of bare receivers can go on the one DROS?

I found references to some new bill in CA that would have raised DROS fees, but couldn't find any reference to it actually passing or being in effect....

It did not go up, we called and confirmed with the DOJ and our subsequent invoices for background checks have not changed. It looks that way because of the way that they've designed their site but everything is still the same as it was

I did a private party transfer for 4 firearms. The cart said it was 4 x $35. I paid $140. I explained to the dealer that I was overcharged. The dealer said he checked his DROS invoice and it was 4 DROSes and not 1.

When did he check his invoice? Yes it will show 4 DROS but 3 of them will say $0 and he cant check it until a few days into the next calendar month. If he told you he checked it right after the transaction he gotcha...(and lied).

I asked about it when I picked up the PPTs four weeks later. I waited that long to make sure that the invoice for the previous month was available. I had even shown him the previously mentioned thread. And like I wrote previously, I was told 4 fees.

The only other way I think this happened is if he was an idiot and actually did 4 separate transactions vs using the addon button. Thus getting charged for 4 DROS transactions.

Thanks all for the responses and clarification. Looks once again like the DOJ is working overtime to make life difficult for anything firearm related...

I'll double check with the FFL again and see if I can clear it up - they are great folks and very local for me, but probably not as tech savvy as the members here.

Sound like a DES training issue to me.

A dealer can do it both ways, it just depends on their knowledge of the DES system. If after completing the first DROS you don't click the link on the confirmation page to add a new firearm to this DROS, and they choose to start from the main screen each time, they'll be charged $25 for each transaction.

Also, as far as the "cart" showing $35x4 that would be impossible. The DROS fee is $25 (as shown in my screenshot) so even if he processed it as 4 separate PPTs it should have only shown 4x$25.. so either way he lied to you.. either on the 4x charge or the fact that it was $25 vs $35...
