Got this in my DES today

Delivery of Firearms following DROS Submission and Suspension
Please review section 4230 Delivery of Firearms following DROS submission and Suspension.
Pending implementation by the Department, the DES will suspend all accounts associated with the
firearm dealer, the Dealer COE Holder(s), authorized associate(s), and salesperson(s) until delivery
or cancelation information is updated in the DES for a transaction older than 30 days from the
original transaction date.

The problem we hav is that there is no way to sort by DROS' that have exceed their 30 days. Does anyone have a solution ?

Kind of funny in a warped way since it shows that they don't have a clue as to how things work.

They say that you have to go into the DES to mark the firearm as delivered AFTER delivery of the firearm, which is a bit of a problem since you need to get a signature and thumbprint on the DROS, which is done prior to delivery.

Disabling the account if there is a DROS which isn't cancelled or delivered after 30 days is just harassment. If the firearm wasn't delivered, then the DROS should just be cancelled. If this happens when the dealer is closed, then they come back to a disabled account and have to search for the offending DROS.

Keep a separate log of DROS that have been submitted. It is a bit of extra work, but it does help. I have a spreadsheet which is almost a duplicate of the bound book, but missing some info such as who it came from, which I use for entering info into the DES. I keep track of when the firearm came in and how long it as been. Once the DROS has been submitted, I move the entry to the DROS sheet and then to the delivered sheet once delivered. It makes it quick and easy to look things up. I use a paper bound book because I have worked with computers for far too long.

What do you do with the pending 4473/DROS? The oldest one will be the one over 30 days.

I'm curious how much grace time they give or if it's automated. Imagine having to stare at the DES screen or else you get disabled 2 minutes after someone gets past their 30 days... so if that happens in the middle of a busy work day good luck if it has to be marked "delivered" since you have to call in to DES for that.

According to what is referenced in the bulletin, it takes effect on day 31. They seem to think that you should be watching closely and either cancel or deliver on day 30. The problem with that is that the person has until the time expires on day 30 to come in and pick up the firearm. If you are closed that day, then it seems that you are supposed to cancel it the last day you are open or something.

The question is what exactly they mean by disabled. Will you be able to still login? If not, it creates a problem. Also, does it involve a $25 fee to get your account working again?

Ok, I poorly worded that. The deadline is some seconds before the 30 days expires.

I really hope the system will at least give a name so you can pull paperwork and cancel fast..... I have a lot in dros and they are sorted by name and not date of dros.

That is funny, hoping that the CA DOJ does the right thing, such as a warning or something. That is like hoping that you win the lottery without buying a lottery ticket.

It is best to keep track of it yourself..

BTW, the billing will list the DROS that are submitted as well. Only a DROS submitted on the 1st in a month that has 31 days would not give you the info prior to exceeding the time period.

Well it does say "Pending implementation by the Department" so who knows when it will start.

I've had people who I needed to cancel 3 DROS's on due to an error and REDROS right away and only say 2 of the 3 were cancelled due to an oversight. Those are long filed sometimes by day 31. Guess if its doesn't say what one ill be on the phone to DES support asking.

I have no Idea why it wouldn't make more sense to just auto cancel anything thats expired......

Because if it makes sense, then it is prohibited for the government to do it.
