Well hello fellow Calgunners. I have a question today and I'm wondering if you wonderful FFLs can help me out with it. (enough pandering lol)
Many months ago a very good friend of mine needed to get out of his then current residence. He owned a few misc firearms and I offered to store them in my safes until he moved into a more stable place. Unfortunately he passed away before he could get into a new spot. He passed a couple months ago. His mother, who lives in Socal, is his beneficiary. He lived and all of his friends live in Norcal. We (his real friends) and his mother sat down shortly after his death to talk about the many things that he owned but are in our possession. She didn't want anything of his that doesn't have sentimental value to her and she said she ABSOLUTELY (she almost yelled at me when I brought them up) doesn't want to have anything to do with and firearms, knives, etc. So I offered to buy them off of the estate. She agreed and went back to Socal. We have still not received the final death certificate and everything is still on hold, but i'd like to get in front of any problems.
Well there lies the issue I am having. How can we transfer these legally from his/his estate/her to me? For other things like vehicles she was going to do a general power of attorney to someone she knows who lives near us, but vehicles don't require a 10 day hold NOR both parties to be present. What do I do? These are firearms that we built, cleaned, customized, everything together. They do have a sentimental value to me.
I'm sure I'm leaving information out. It's been a rough week. Let me know guys and gals. Thanks
EDIT: I don't think it matters to the situation, but I'm moving to Oregon in June
