I'd say that Biblically, it's a little more complicated at times -- less so with the OT but more so with the NT. There's a strong case for Jesus as a pacifist at times but he borders on militant zealotry at others.

Personally, I don't think that Jesus gave self defense much thought at all. Seems like a non-issue. A person or society that has to debate whether it's okay to defend yourself and your family from harm is one that has gone completely nuts.

Some times I think that people/churches go out of their way to sanitize what Christ may have been saying. They cherry pick verses to "house break" Christ and try to turn Him into a Henry Milquetoast.
