    Why?

I live in a great neighborhood, except for one house that is always causing problems. It's mostly the paramedics coming to pick up a drunk and occasionally the 30 y.o son getting arrested for domestic Violence. I think the "drunk" died and the "son" is without question selling drugs from the house. Cars pulling up at all hours, he walks out, gets in, gets out and the car drives away. Cabs pull up, person walks in, walks out and leaves in the cab. Again, ALL hours. So, I call the local sheriff, ask them to do a drive by. Nothing... they give me another number to a Narc division to set up a "sting". Guess what? No answer, leave a message, no call back. So..some days pass, other neighbors call, same answer form the local sheriff, same response. Whats the deal???? What is the point of having a local PD? Is it simply that there is no money in it for the department????? Please let me know your thoughts...

Could be a variety of reasons. Could be that you and your neighbors are being blow off, could be that they don't have the manpower to address it at this time, or it could be that they already have the house and its occupants under investigation and that due to it being part of a larger case they are not ready to make arrest yet.

Another problem is that with the current budget problems "crime" has to be placed in order of priorities. There are many folks (including Calgun folks) who believe drug laws are a waste of time. Keep calling and have the neighbors call in as well. The other method is to call or make a visit (more effective) to your local elected official and ask them to contact the local law enforcement agency.

Years ago in the Los Angeles area a nun called the local agency complaining about drug deals close to their church. Nothing was done. The nun wrote a letter to Nancy Reagan and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was on it! The local agency was on it too! I know this because I worked with the DEA agents who worked the case.

The point is sometimes you have to contact the right people in the right method to get things done.

don't give up . Also have your neighbors do what ever they can to make them unwelcome. Bright motion detector lights. cut back brush for good visibility, cameras. Lots of people out walking dogs. What ever it takes. Its your neighborhood you have to do something. Don't wait for someone else to do it.

Patrol cops that write the tinted window tickets you are whining about are not going to do a sales case on a house any more than the narcs are going to write that ticket. Apples and oranges. If your problem house is in the city limits, and has it's own police department (not a contract city), call the police chief, and/or go to a city council meeting and complain.

A drug dealing case on a home is not going to be solved by a call for a patrol unit. First you identifying the house as selling drugs is not enough to make a single arrest. Your expertise will generally not be accepted by a court in the state of California so your statements won't get a warrant for the location.

An investigation which can take a long time has to be started by the relevant narcotics investigators. Please tell me you are not calling anonymously.

So have you actually seen drugs or money changing hands?
You said that you went to the station. What did they tell you?
And just because you don't see anything being done doesn't mean that they aren't doing anything. They dont use marked units to do narcotics investigations and building a good drug case takes time.

Man I love how people say "well I called you, go arrest them!"
Problem one: Those civil rights you hold so dearly, also apply to them. Even if they are a complete S bag.
Problem two: I'm a patrol cop. Which means I am just too busy handling radio calls to babysit a house all night and create a good caper. That being said, I will drive by if I can, but honestly I'll probably forget after a week.
Three: The cops in your area probably know they are dirty. Which means we bug the crap out of them when we see them in public or they drive around. Unless they are on probation or parole, or let me into their house (yea right) I can't just go in and find dope. And no, I'm not writing a search warrant as a patrol cop. See problem 2.

Dope cases are hard to really set up, and if it's a known "petty dope" (small amount) house, plainclothes or narc units really aren't that interested. They'll get around to it. Or the people from the house will get picked up on something else. Or stab each other. So OP, be patient, your problem will go away.

To those who think "ah, the patrol cops are too busy writing tinted window tickets." Eat it. Sorry CHP got you. Their primary job is vehicle code. Some of us who are city cops have other S going on. Do I write cites? yea, sometimes, generally 1 a month when my LT starts eyeballing me. Some cities have traffic units who just do traffic, like local CHP. Sorry if they got you too. Maybe follow tint laws, not exactly impossible to find.

Yes I'm bitter. 1 AM and I just got home after a 20 hour day. Happens.

It didn't say any drugs were found in the home.

Don't see any mention of drugs. So tell me, how would a patrol car doing a drive by every once in a while have prevented this.
By the way, now everyone knows where you live.

"The shooting was the third reported in the same neighborhood in two days."
From the info in the article, it sounds like a "great neighborhood".

I will upload some very cool photos of the swat team in my kitchen getting some better views of the perp. And yes, Drugs were found in the house, the liberal media just hasn't released it yet.
