    Registration

    Hi all,
I am trying to find out who a firearm is registered to, I am sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have been told a Leo can run the serial number, is this the only way? If so are any of the leo's on here willing to check this, thanks in advance for any help

not really, i just havn't given the whole story...

My grandfather and father both had bought bushmasters pre 99 and registered them with the DOJ in 2000, however in the flurry of sending off registrations and figuring out whos name they should be sent off in they arent sure if one is registered to each or both to my dad or both to my grandpa or so on. I am looking to move out of state and when i do i would be transferring them into my name and taking ownership, i just need to find out whos name they are in first

Have your grandfather and father do this to get a list of the firearms for which they are listed as the purchaser, transferee or owner:

        AUTOMATED FIREARMS SYSTEM RECORD REQUEST

Its a felony for any leo to access a database for personal use.

I'm not sure how "complete" these firearms databases are. I was burglarized last year and had a gun stolen during the burglary. The responding officers tried to bring up my guns on whatever database they use (all my guns were "registered.") I looked at the computer screen as the officer entered my ID info, and was surprised to find that only a few guns "showed up" as registered to me. Even though I have had a CCW for many years, even some of my CCW guns did not "show up." I had to rummage through my files to find the DROS for the stolen pistol.
