Forgot about my freedom while living in Kaliforniastan

I decided to swing by the Boise Cabelas and visited the gun counter. I asked about the Shield Plus and the Shield Plus Carry Comp. I wanted to replace my Gen1 Shield with something more than 8 rounds. After seeing each gun, I ended up impulse buying the Shield Plus on sale for $349. I completed the online 4473, went to get some additional 13/15 round mags, and went back to the counter. He told me to walk over to the register to pay for my items. I figured i would have to wait a few minutes for the background check. I was wrong. The background check took less than 5 minutes and I was out the door with the gun, mags, and ammo. I asked if I needed to show someone up front the receipt, and he just laughed and said nope. Enjoy your purchase. It was nice to throw everything in the car without worrying about locked gun cases, keeping ammo separate, etc. No DROS fee. Just the gun and state taxes. Ammo is on the shelves, no background check needed.

It reminded me of the old days when you could cash and carry in California. I made the right decision moving to Idaho. Plenty of BLM land and pubic gun ranges too. I plan on signing up for the enhanced CCW license next year, even though Idaho is constitutional carry.

One more perk. I bought a three year hunting/fishing combo license for $99. Far less than the California fees. Yes, I am gloating. Flame away!

Danodog, glad you took advantage of our strong 2A heritage in Idaho. Consider getting an Enhanced CCW - even though Idaho is a constitutional carry state, the enhanced CCW lets you skip the NICS background check when you purchase a firearm. Also, it greatly expands the number of reciprocating states, and it allows you to carry in more places throughout the state. Enjoy your purchase!

Let me add that it also protects you from federal school zone laws in Idaho, which is one of the reasons that Idahoans should get Washington and Oregon permits, even though Washington recognizes the Enhanced Idaho license.

Yes, I agree 100%. I had a CCW with UCSSA insurance in Kalifornia. I plan on taking a class in the spring when it starts to warm up again.

Have you checked out Scheels in Meridian yet?

They have every CZ you’ve ever wanted for starters.

I did check out Scheels too. I bought 2000 CCI BR2 primers for my Shiloh Sharps there. Cabelas had the sale going on, so I opted to go with them.

Welcome to freedom. We are in N Idaho but are in Boise/Meridian a lot since two of our four kids bought homes there a few years ago.

Weather permitting, we are spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with them this year.

Normally we fly them in to stay up here but they want to host this holiday season.

                Cheers!

Scheel's matches prices. the Meridian store has great people, the chain is employee owned.

in my experience Cabela's is better for fishing stuff.

You made a life commitment by moving and you deserve to relish in the benefits of G'TFO of Kalifornistan and into free America.

The taste of freedom is great, isn't it?

It's the same here in TX. All the standard cap mags you could ever want, no wating periods, no ammo excise tax BS, BGCs on firearms from an FFL take 5 minutes and you're on your way home with your new purchase. And of course private party sales are C&C and no BGC.

We too have Constitutional carry, but having an LTC comes with additional perks like more legal protections, bypassing the BGC at an FFL (since you've already done it getting your LTC) and opens up many more places you can carry as well as open carry a handgun if you choose.

Its also a great feeling finally being able look at sites like Gunbroker and buy whatever I want without dredging through listings of things to see if sellers will ship to Kalifornia or not.

Side note: Went to a great new (to me) LGS today. The shop guys were so damn cool, as friendly as could be, tons of suppressors, SBRs, SBSs and everything in between, plus more. Even though Christmas is right around the corner, a few things on my list are going to come early. 🎅👍

                    Freedom is addictive. 🙂

Some other stores to check out in the Treasure Valley:

BiMart: Off the beaten path, limited selection, but they have outstanding deals from time to time on ammo. Well worth checking out their adverts.
D&B Supply: They've steadily expanded their firearms, ammo, and accessory offerings. They give a 10% senior discount on everything except firearms every Tuesday.

And our two Sportsman Warehouses, one in Boise and one in Nampa. They were the original "big box" firearms vendors in the valley.

Not to mention any number of "smaller" gun stores like Cliff's , Idaho Guns, etc. So darn many of them now that I cannot keep track any longer.

And indoor shooting ranges (Independence and Impact) have extensive inventories, primarily black rifles and such, both in store and online.

Thank you all for the resources. I will most likely go to an Enhanced CCW class in the spring. The holiday season is restricting my disposable income. HAHA!

Reno for a small city has a dozen small to large gun shops. First day with my paper DMV, was able to buy a VP9. Took only 5 minute background check. I am still exploring BLM land. But GPS is a must have. Better learn to use a compass as back up. One big benefit..lots of used out of production fire arms, far more than Vegas. Just had big Reno Show, another gun show in 2 weeks.
