When did Ca. DOJ begin regulating firearms transactions?

The first firearm I ever purchased was an H&R single shot 12 ga. shotgun from Kmart. I filled out a 4473, payed $40.00, and walked out with it. That was almost 40 years ago. I don't remember the DOJ being involved just the BATF. When did the Ca. DOJ first become involved in regulating firearm transactions? Aren't there still states where the only regulating agency is the BATF?

Long guns used to be cash and carry but pistols have been regulated for a while, in the old days we had to press hard on those 4 or 5 part DOJ paper forms and wait 15 days to buy a pistol.

I am sure Librarian will step in and post the dates it all happened.

CA required substantially all transfers to use a CA FFL beginning in 1991.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

And it required the DROS, registration and 1 day waiting period since 1923 for handguns. Sales between individuals who knew each other were exempted only in that bill.
