2022 Santa Clara County Sheriff election mega thread

Here are the two candidates that will be running for the Santa Clara County Sheriff position. Others may join. Not sure what the status of the current Sheriff will be. It may become more clear on Jan. 12th as her pending legal matters unfold. Both candidates below also have various social media accounts.

    Filing Window: Feb. 14, 2022 - March 11, 2022
Election Day: June 7, 2022 as part of the California Primary elections.

    Kevin Jensen: http://www.kevinjensen4sheriff.com
In his last campaign in 2014 Kevin was pro CCW and wanted to set up a fair system to issue permits. Not sure of his current stance.

    Christine Nagaye: http://www.nagayeforsheriff.com
Can not find any information as to Christine's stance on CCW and issuing permits. Asked her on social media and she did not respond.

Promise you that the female will be against or at least keep the red tape up on CCW's ... 99% of them are Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity wonder jobs who will follow the current political trends like a hawk...

NM.. I found this on her page... I WAS RIGHT... """"We need outreach to our Black, Indigeous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Our Asian neighbors and our LBTGQ+ communities need to feel safe. Our black and brown communities need to feel safe and valued.""""""

      Palo Alto's Chief is a maybe about running- but my guess is he's a "hell no" WRT firearms of any kind;

Police Chief Robert Jonsen is considering entering the race to replace Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith, a six-term incumbent who is fending off accusations of corruption and misconduct.

Jonsen, who has been working as Palo Alto’s police chief since January 2018, on Tuesday pulled papers to form a committee to run for sheriff. He told this publication, however, that he has not yet made a final decision about whether to enter the race.

Retired San Jose Assistant (and Acting for a time) Chief Dave Knopf has also filed paperwork and is in it. Reportedly "a good guy", not heard his stance on 2A as yet.

Knopf withdrew. Came to his senses on the BS that comes with being Sheriff.

Santa Clara County Deputies Union Endorses Kevin Jensen To Replace Embattled Sheriff Laurie Smith

Rank and file deputies at the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office were recently asked who they should back in the upcoming election. In an overwhelming majority, they said current Sheriff Laurie Smith has to go.

Here is a response from the Kevin Jensen campaign posted by another Calgunner in a different thread.

Thank you for your interest in Kevin Jensen for Sheriff 2022 campaign and your question regarding ccw’s.

It has been widely reported that the incumbent won't define her concealed carry weapons policy amidst allegations and data that strongly suggest that the small number of quid pro quo permits granted were linked to contributions and favorable influence.

Kevin has made the commitment to a legal, responsible and fair process with regard to CCWs. Here is Kevin's response:
"I recognize how important this topic is to the residents of Santa Clara County. Unlike the current situation, the policy I plan to implement will be a legal, fair, transparent and consistent process. I have researched the policies and spoken with Sheriffs and staff of other jurisdictions and will be implementing the best of what is working across the State of California. This means an applicant must first meet all of the requirements set out by law. Each application will be evaluated using a fair and transparent process with the applicant being informed of approval or denial within the timeframe required by state law.Independent oversight will be put in place, and neither political influence nor campaign donations will improve one's chances of securing a CCW permit.”

Kevin’s plans include a comprehensive county-wide crime prevention program, focusing on proactive community policing model, education (includIng: internet crime, identity theft, school safety, bullying, gang prevention), and ahome safety component with a strong emphasis on firearm safety to include education on the laws, best practices and critical importance of the safe storage of firearms.
                Thank you,

                Kevin Jensen for Sheriff 2022

Here are two more maybe candidates:

Robert Jonsen: Palo Alto Police Chief 2018-Present (May retire to run for Sheriff) Menlo Park PC 2013-2018, LA County Sheriff department 27 years. Doesn't sound 2A friendly and may have unfavorable baggage for Menlo Park & Palo Alto

Sean Allen: SCC Sergeant with 30 years of service, website is limited www.seanallenfor sheriff.com

Judge won’t seal testimony in Santa Clara County sheriff case

A San Mateo County judge has refused to seal a portion of civil grand jury testimony in a public corruption case against the Santa Clara County sheriff.

A San Mateo County judge has refused to seal a portion of civil grand jury testimony in a public corruption case against Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith.

Judge Nancy Fineman denied a motion on Tuesday to seal testimony given by insurance broker Harpreet Chadha to a civil grand jury. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office argued that some of Chadha’s statements should remain sealed because they could otherwise be used against him in a pending criminal bribery case.

Fineman noted the only possible exception to complete disclosure of the testimony is if there’s a reasonable likelihood it may prejudice a defendant’s right to a fair and impartial trial.

“Sheriff Smith, in this case, has not objected to the release, and wants it released,” Fineman said. “Both of the third-party defendants, undersheriff Rick Sung and Mr. Chadha, want it released, and realize the implication that it has.”
