Why wait till last day to sign or veto?

Assuming the gov actually takes action one way or the other, what would be the strategy to wait till the very last minute? Does it get more publicity on the last day? More time to get public response? Or he truly hasn't made up his mind and is thinking about it (doubtful)?

His mind is fully made up by now I am sure, Oct 13 is just the last possible day he has to veto it.

My .02 cents is he will most likely take no action and let it slip through into law.

Same reason I wait until the last minute to tell my wife I have to work on a Sunday.

I think he will do the same thing. It will give him political cover to say he did not sign it, but still keep the whackjob leftest happy because it will become law.

That crosses my mind but I pray he has another motive to wait and veto at the last minute. I pray he has enough sense to save CA treasury from the expensive legal ramifications of this terribly written bill.

its because he wants to wait and see what news events play out from now til then. suppose he vetos it and the next day we have a sandy hook event in cali.

he's also got to take every possible day to feel out the political climate

The Navy Yard shooting happened and he said that it would have no effect on his decision. If that were the case, he would've signed all of them by now.

There are strategic and moral considerations, and they happen to be at odds with one another. I hope that he is weighing those considerations rather than calculating which choice will benefit him politically.

The gov can not go for re election this is his second term, so he is not too worried about who he pisses off in this situation.

When a bill is controversial, with strong opponents on either side of the issue, then signing it will alienate and anger one group, while vetoing it will alienate and anger the other. The longer you postpone that decision, the longer you postpone incurring the wrath of the group you're going to piss off. This gives you more time to use them for your benefit.

That said, I doubt Brown will sign or veto these bills: he's going to try to dodge the bullet by allowing them to become law without any action on his part.

I have to agree with Ladyrr. Lack of action might as well be signing and the pro gun community as passionate as we are will take it as such. So either way he will piss one side off.

The Gov reads Calguns and has seen all the imprefecions we have pointed out in all the proposed legislation.

He has been in contact with the authors asking them exactly what they intended and since we have so graciously pointed out all the flaws, he is finding out if they are willing to proposed new legislation next year to fix their errors. Unless they agree to, he will veto them. Or so I was told.......
