    Storing other people's guns

I have a friend who wants to buy a new pistol for the first time and will be doing so soon. He asked me if he could store it in my house because:

    A. His gf is not comfortable with a gun in the house yet
    B. He doesn't have a safe yet and since he's moving soon, not practical to buy one immediately

Are there any legal issues involved in storing someone else's pistol in my safe or transporting it beyond the normal legal stuff?

I believe, if it's a legally registered AW or 50BMG rifle he needs to store it at his home or bussiness. Since, it's niether, he can SAFELY store it where ever he want to including, your safe.

There is that pesky little limit of 30 days when loaning a handgun to someone else. I realize this is not a loan, but more than 30 days possession could be made into a problem.

is the 30 day loan like the 14 day blm camping limit?

could you have your buddy store it and every month go out shooting and have him borrow it for another 29 days for the next trip

what if you lock the gun in a safe and ask your friend to store the safe that you forgot the combo too?

Have your buddy put the pistol in a locking pistol case. Put the case in the safe. Keep it for however long. He keeps all of the keys to the pistol case.

Now, how does this measure up against the law? He can't have posession if it is not accessible, can he? It can't be a loan if he can't access it - can it?

I would tell him to buy a Safe first or at the same time so he can store it. Small gun safe like the Gunvault would do fine, around 125$ or so.

Only time I would want to have a friend hold firearms is would be when I went on vacation or something.

If his GF is not comfortable with firearms in the house then it seems to me that a fun range day is in order.

Sublet 1 square foot to him. If he's renting, then you're not borrowing, and it's his own space.
Just so happen the rent is $1/month, or a bag of potato chips.

Sometimes I think we forget that human relationships are more important than guns, at least to some people.

Anyways, thanks for the info guys.

Have him get her a nice wheelgun and take her shooting, she might get to like it.

Tell him to take his gf to see The Strangers then ask if she is cool with a gun in the house.
