Yep, I distinctly remember telling those around me that it was only a matter of time.

I noticed a good "its for the children" in that article LOL. Why hasnt this been a problem any time in the last 500 years?

"Bill supporters, including pediatrician Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, say lead shot in animals consumed by humans is a public health issue because it puts children at risk of brain damage."

"There really is no question that lead ammo is a threat,"
Actually.....there are TONS of questions since their stupid ban attempts elsewhere have repeatedly failed as all of your assertions are based on biased, junk science!

This is very dangerous gun banning, attacking us on bullets, the ability to make your own, raising costs of bullets with more expensive materials etc.

Plastic trash is several billion times more dangerous to wildlife than lead ammo.

If they wanted Condor's blood level to go down all they have to do is stop feeding the Condors beef that get's it's water from LEAD PIPES.

Europe allows game to be sold at market

They have done many studies about the amount of lead in tissue taken from game samples. It is a negligble risk to humans.

I would also like to see lead levels in other carrion feeding species(like non endangered vultures) to see if they suffer the same levels. Why do we not care about them? Losing turkey buzzards would have a far more serious consequence to the ecosystme than a bird that evolved to feed on megafauna carcasses. This ecosystem currently has no megafauna species that act as a food source. You could make a case for whales, but coastal communities like to tow them out to sea because they are bad for tourism. Whales may have been the reason the Condors were clinging to coastal california in the first place.

You are right but as one person on another forum observed the "lead free" requirements would include the primers as well. That would be the real kicker. In standard ammo there is lead styphenate which stabilizes the primer giving almost indefinite shelf life to the ammo. Primers in lead free use less effective alternatives which provide only 5-6 yrs shelf life maybe less. This would make ammo lead free and almost bio-degradeable effectively choking off ammo supply.

Out of curiosity, are there any studies to cite when refuting their argument? I don't hunt and don't know much about the sport, but I'd like to argue against a lead ammunition ban.

I can't do that without proper citations though. I did a quick Google search and only saw studies suggesting that lead in large game may be harmful.

Fact: The lead isotopes from ammunition are not easily turned from the insoluble state they exist in to a soluble state that causes harm.

Junk science propagated by self-styled experts is going to ruin the world.

This is how they work ....

"You can't have JHP ammo, 'cuz it's made just for killing people, and is super killy, and you can't be trusted with super killy things.

You can't have FMJ ammo, because it penetrates some soft body armor more easily, so it's "armor piercing & designed to kill cops" in a super killy way, and if you want it you must want to kill cops in a super killy way, so you can't be trusted with it.

You can't have lead-cast bullets because evree-buddy KNOWS that lead is super bad and kills Bambi and his mommy and daddy and super-cute birds and chipmunks n stuff. If you want it you must want to kill Bambi & his woodland friends ... in a super killy lead-poisoning kind of way ... so you can't be trusted with it.

Don't worry, there are other bullets (or whatever they're called) you can use ... maybe ... not sure ... doesn't matter because guns scare me and people with guns (who scare me) can't be trusted anyway."
