You think people were upset about 2 women in the wrong pickup truck shot at by mistake, what happens when entire buildings get taken out by an errante drone strike. You think that government's going to stay in power without revoking people's right to vote?

Not to mention Dorner was a murderous freak. No matter if he was wrongfully terminated or not. When possibly millions rise up (Justifiably under our Constitution) against a traitorous totalitarian dictatorship, it will be 1776 all over again. The masses as a whole will not be out to get those that rise up, but rather will be against those that have used their elected positions to elevate themselves to almost royalty within our republic. The biggest opposition to the Militia will be the state controlled media outlets.

They are already doing their best to try to stay one step ahead of us. Painting us as being in the same category as Dorner, David Koresh, the V-Tech shooter, etc. etc. etc. All of us AR owners are being portrayed as mass shooters. They have douchebags like Piers Morgan still spreading the FUD that the AR was used at Sandy Hook, nevermind the official coroner's report that he only used 4 handguns. Hell, they have labeled our guns "Assault Weapons" and "Military Style" weapons. Those of us that were/are in the Military know better (and gun owners), but not the populace as a whole. They have the advantage of organization, we need to follow that lead. My $0.02.

I was there during part of that "change" in government. Many nights the base was locked down. Most of what I saw was not violent, but there were a couple events that were down-right scary!

http://lat.ms/11Ndm6i ) they didn't support Dorner's deadly methods, but objected to police corruption and brutality, and believed Dorner's claims of racism and unfair treatment by the department. Many said they were angered by the conduct of the manhunt that led to Dorner's death and injuries to innocent bystanders who were mistaken for him.
Michael Nam, 30, who held a sign with a flaming tombstone and the inscription "RIP Habeas Corpus," said it was "pretty obvious" police had no intention of bringing Dorner in alive.
"They were the judge, the jury and the executioner," Nam said. "As an American citizen, you have the right to a trial and due process by law."

It is hard for them to claim legitimacy when hundreds of thousands, even millions of citizens are protesting. It is easy when they can claim those protesters are "terrorists".

I am not saying it is not possible for some spark to set off a popular revolt in this country, but the far more likely scenario is mass peaceful protest.
I sure hope that peaceful protest would be the first move the American people would make. It might very well work. The real question almost always boils down to this: What will the military do?

Effectively, the opposition must put the government into a position in a position where the police are not enough. This often can be done without the use of arms - but not always. Sometimes, it takes armed resistance.

I also think that the greatest problem that a tyrannical federal government would face would be whole states and/or regions rising up in opposition - potentially lead by their state governments. That would really force the military to choose.

"The militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves, ... all men capable of bearing arms;..."

The problem today is that although there are many gun owners and citizen protectors of the constitution, the focus is on the individual right to defense. It was important when our founders declared in our bill of rights that....

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

A lot of gun-owning patriots punch paper and that's it. The second amendment wasn't a self-defense clause. It was a liberty-defense clause. The 9th amendment is the true personal self-defense clause. We have many citizen gun owners...but a small percentage are "organized/trained". Although the 100 million gun owners would cause chaos, imagine millions tactically trained and organized.

And yes....I would hope that the battle for liberty would come from peaceful means, but like they say....

            Si vis pacem, para bellum.

              1) If AR-15s and similar weapons are useless against tyranny, then there's no harm in letting people keep them. Let us keep our "false sense of security."

The .gov will just win anyway, right?

              2) Dorner is yet another reason why the gov shouldn't be trusted with weapons like that. Look what he did; how many cops he killed.

              3) Dorner is another reason why the gov shouldn't be trusted with weapons like that; what if his targets had been non-LEOs instead?

If anything it is a prime example of why regular citizens should be just as armed as law enforcement. One rogue LEO had all of SoCal worried, just imagine if a large group of rogue ex LEOs with their legally obtained assault rifles would do. Kind if scary.

Cmon we're talking the LA Daily Worker er Times here. They didn't even mention that NRA had the idea of providing armed security at schools. Pitched the whole idea of cops stopping at each school at least once per shift as the Chief's idea.

The fact of the matter is that this whole business about guarding against tyranny is entirely misplaced.

The vast majority of the military understands clearly that this Douchebag of a president, much as he would want, doesn't have the nuts to call in the military against its citizens - he has a far more willing TOOL, and that is LAW ENFORCEMENT.

The Dorner event is a textbook example of how this government intends to deal with opposition of any kind: No due process, simply "burn it, burn it, burn it to the ground!" .

At this point it isn't guarding against tyranny in a nation, but rather guarding against those law enforcement officers who would otherwise blindly support this administration and its policies.

I've supported law enforcement for years, watching them change their tune radically in the last 5-10 years; since California is one of the worst offenders, it may be best to reconsider and move to another state. Choosing your battles..
