    A couple AK legality questions

Ok, so I installed a Monsterman grip on my "out of the box" WASR10 - with the research I've done, I should be able to take off the mag lock correct?

Also, in this configuration, can I install a muzzle brake or something similar to make the rifle slightly longer? It's barely long enough to hit the notches in the gun safe. May have to find something for it to sit on to make it taller if I can't add soemthing.

    Just putting it out there..

I'm not sure of exact details of various AK variants, but if the WASR10 semiauto centerfire rifle
    • is at or over 30" long, measured with any stock folded/closed.

    and
    • has no flash hider, no pistol grip or forward pistol grip, nor any thumbhole, folder or telescoping stock (or grenadue launcher)

then the gun can have a detachabmle magazine (i.e., no mag lock).

1.) I hope the gun is 30" or longer already if no maglock. (Probably is, double check.)

2.) Ensure the added muzzle device is sold as a muzzle brake and is not touted offering optical power reduction, etc. If it's sold by one vendor as a brake or compensator but is sold by another as a flash hider you should avoid it. 'Slant brakes' should be fine.

      It's 35.5"

Mine has an angled piece on it that measures about 1.25"

20" brass tube or wooden dowel down the bore to allow it to reach the rest in the safe.

That's how Turner's stocks their shorter rifles.

Good idea. I do like the looks though:

The bottom one would likely be considered an FH, even if not marketed as such. The top one, possibly.

Generally, if the exit is the size of the bore, it will pass muster as a comp. If the exit is larger, it is considered a flash hider.

This is not always the case... the Smith Vortex is a very effective flash hider, but it is more akin to the original M16's 3-prong hider.
