Anyone else watch CSI tonight? Major anti open/concealed carry message...

Entire episode is based around a scene where a citizen who is dressed as a "cowboy" draws his firearm when he sees a perceived threat but then it turns into a clusterf**k with the citizen & a security guard shooting all over the damn place & a bunch of people end up dead...

I used to watch the original Vegas CSI, but I gave up on it a while ago. TV dramas are all the same - after a while, the good writers all jump to a new show, and the 3rd string writers give the actors far too much sexual tension and personal issues like divorces, gambling, drinking/drug problems, etc, etc. Finally, the social engineering starts to become VERY obvious, and the show becomes nothing but a vehicle for Hollywood to push their own agendas. We're lucky if we get 2 or 3 good seasons from a show - beyond that and you are really pushing your luck!

      CSI

When we were working for a living CSI proved to be an adequate bit of fluffy cartoon fun to provide a bit of escape, but the stories were so improbable and filled with flaws and silly plot devices that we soon turned to other programming for entertainment. There are just so many buried alive crime lab tech's, decomposed corpses and autopsy simulations with glistening silicone prop flesh that can be found intriguing at dinner time.

As for the other two CSI's, we gave up count of Horatio's manipulation of his yellow blue-blockers after reaching a point where laughter was causing us to loose large portions of dialog. While CSI-NY may be the better show, it somehow fails for the same reasons as the other two.

So, what happens on the cartoon world of TV programming hardly counts as any indictment of the real world, except for ten year old's and their adult equivalents. I wouldn't worry about it too much, their impact lasts less than 24 hours or until the next American Idol or Dancing With the Stars replaces them in the popular mind.

That's funny, I pointed that out to my wife when it was on as well. That just goes to show you that only LEO's are trained and qualified enough to use firearms. If that guard hadn't had one, there wouldn't have been NEARLY as many dead people.

The show isn't the same since Grissom left.

A broadcast TV show does not show a firearm owner/carrier in a positive light?
          I am *shocked*.

I never cared for cop, doctor, or lawyer shows.

There's more fantasy in one episode of those shows, than in the entire three movies of "Lord of the Rings".

The original CSI is set in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Watched one episode and knew that the writers of the show did not know anything about Nevada laws.

The writers and main sets are in SoCal. They also film some of the episodes at Indian Casinos in SoCal, because it's cheaper to do that than to film in Las Vegas.

You are mostly on the money here about the cartoon comedy and poorly researched plausibilities...BUT, your comment on not worrying about the impact on the real world is off a bit. I have seen over and over again, good solid court cases lost and nearly lost because the jury didn't get fed the CSI wizardry of absolute and mystical crime evidence.

Too many people out there are taking CSI and other similar shows as how the real world (they otherwise have no knowlege of) works!

Cases that lack actual evidence are not really solid.

Not every case needs a few million in techie ninja forensics. The "CSI effect" is a well-documented detrimental effect in Criminal Justice.

Discovery channel now has two gun shows on it. I'd say if anything, that is an improvement as CSI and SVU type shows have always been anti.
