    Is it just me?

Hello all My first post here a new member I am, but not new to firearms.
I have a question for you all.
Is it just me or have others noticed that southern California law enforcement officers do not like citizens to own, use, display any firearms?
With the exception of State Game wardens I have always had a hassle with LEO's when it came to using, or posessing firearms.
No I dont look like gang banger or a Hells angel, Im old and fat and bald.
I have never had an issue with the Game Wardens they just inspect to see if I have a plug in my shotgun and go on their way.
I have had issues with other LEO's hassling me for hunting in an area open to hunting near houses where people call to complain that I'm shooting a gun and it may harm people.
I'm very cautious to stay well away from any housing and not to shoot in their direction, but the LEO's come anyway and run my drivers liscence and they always find it spotless, they check my weapons and ammo, search my truck and person then just tell me to leave because there is nothing they can bust me for.
I have heard remarks from several that citizens should not be allowed to own firearms or that I should not be killing gods creatures.
Now on the other hand I have been to several different states like in the midwest and Dakotas where the LEO's have a completely opposite view point.
Any one else had this kind of response.
I wonder how they would feel if they had to abide by the same rules off duty that we have to abide by.
If the police are there to protect us why then wouldn't they be there to protect them also, why do Judges, cops, district attourneys and politicians need guns to protect them when they have the on duty police to protect them?
Ok I think I'm done with my rant for now.

Welcome. You picked a great site to get involved with. And no it's not just you. Also check out Calguns foundation. You'll like what you see.
Right now an elite class far away from most of us, is over taxing us and trying to tell us how to live and regulate our lives? I bet that sounds familar to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Buy more ammo and be ready when the impending zombie hoards attack!

Police serve politicians and political interests. In CA, guns have been defacto declared evil, nasty, caca, dangerous (throw in whatever negative adjective you like) by the Ruling Class (politicians), and police conduct is representative thereof. Up to and including laws that directly conflict with the US Constitution. Where it gets further complicated is, after about 40 years of a social policy wherein irresponsible people were paid to lay around and breed like cats, we have a generation of feral animals running the streets but they are highly organized by one political party in particular. That party would rather make inanimate objects (guns) accountable for misuse and crime than its own constituency, so the police tend to dump everyone together till proven otherwise. At present, we are winning some court cases in our favor but remember -- we are ONE supreme court vote away from losing it ALL. We are on the edge, man.

Around here I think most LEO have no problem with an armed populace. Obviously not universally true, but most are decent folk we can all be proud of.

Maybe they're really afraid that you might eat too many of THEIR doughnuts? I've never experienced any hassles with law enforcement related to firearms. Most that I run into need to be a little better about following the firearms laws that they are supposed to be enforcing (e.g., personal firearms that clearly get lost on the CGN AW flowchart).

The cops will come if someone calls them

[QUOTE]I have had issues with other LEO's hassling me for hunting in an area open to hunting near houses where people call to complain that I'm shooting a gun and it may harm people.
              [QUOTE]

These people calling the cops are your main problem. The cops will not show unless someone is calling them. If the cops show up and no one has called them, then you have a problem with the cops.

I try to talk to the local people in areas I hunt if the opportunity arrises because this helps locals learn who I am. Once the locals know who you are they dismiss your hunting as OK.

Don't forget that most of the LE's are CONDITIONED by training to regard anyone with a gun as a threat and THEIR SURVIVAL is paramount!!

Very difficult issue to balance, but worth trying.

That is 100% true. Legally armed citizens used to be so rare that it was almost an impossibility to find one. The police in other states have adjusted, but that won't happen in this state until carry becomes more common.

This. It's not just you, many police officers around here are hostile toward people with guns. But the reason for this is that most of the people with guns that they have contact with are criminals. It's also because this state's legislature has done everything it can to criminalize gun ownership.

We're winning in court, though, and when law-abiding, peaceable armed citizens become visibly more common than criminal, violent armed citizens, this attitude will change.

The answer is simple: police are concerned with anything that appears to be different or unusual. Staggering down the street in the middle of the day, or sneaking around dumpsters in the middle of the night are not illegal, but they will draw police attention because it is unusual behavior.

In urban California, public display of firearms and public shooting is relatively unusual. It is far less unusual in flyover country and that is why police there are more relaxed about it.

Were you driving when they stopped you? You don't have to show ID if you weren't.

Don't consent to searches. If you're legal, you're legal, you don't have to give up your rights to prove you're legal.

Regardless of their own personal opinions, LEOs are expected to follow departmental policies on everything, especially when a firearm is involved. There are many liabilities issues at stake as well as the political BS.

because they serve their politician LEO's (police chief or sheriff) desires, which are the city/county residents desires. If hassling you from hunting legally near an area of homes saves them 1 vote in the election, it's worth it!

                              To the OP,
There are officers that are for and against citizens carrying firearms, but to bundle them all as one and say they are against it is as bad as the anti-gun folk saying were are all dangerous people because we own and/or carry guns.

Also I know HA's that you would never guess they were HA's so stop lumping everyone into a single group based on what you se on tv. I know HA's that are lawyers and doctors. They are not all a bunch of bad guys like you may think.
