    reg check for lending guns

    Hi Guys,

My GF is moving in to a big house by herself-- a house that is too easy to break into. Just double checking--For me to lend her my XD for an extended period of time legally all she needs is to have the Hand gun safety certificate right?

Where close to palo alto can I take her to get this? Cost? Any links to where she can study for the quiz? What is on this quiz anyways? I never had to take one since i moved from VA with the handgun.

btw i searched and someone mentioned that you can only borrow handguns for 30 days?

    Thanks,

    gnehzekul

the test was really just common sense. easy cheezy
dunno about the length of loan, but when the loan limit is up she just has to hand it back to you for a day or w/e and re-loan it if she still needs it.

you could always buy her a nice baseball bat, or maybe a pellet pistol..?

shotguns work good for lending out. 'specially if they are over 50 years old.

pistols are not something I typically lend out to inexperianced shooters (if your GF is not a newbie then by all means lend it out)

Remember not to lend her any large cap magazines, that could get you in alot more trouble than lending out the pistol.

The 12078 PC exemption for lending firearms is for *occasional* lending, with a max. period of up to 30 days.
There is no 'extended' lending, and 'cyclic' lending for multiple 30 day periods is likely not to fly if something brings this up.

Yes, if the firearm is a handgun, the recipient lent the handgun must have an HSC card.

If your GF is gonna have the firearm for awhile at her place and you are not on the lease, she prob should have it papered to her.

          That's true.

If the cops ever found out she had your gun, and then they came back more than 30 days later and found that she still had it...

Just buy her something she is familiar and comfortable with; CA law makes lending 'difficult' from a legal standpoint.

              download the study guide here...

take the test anywhere, Tabors (San Bruno), City Arms (Pacifica), or Jackson Arms (South San Francisco).

              -edit-
the test is basically common sense, it's a 30 question multiple choice.
