    belt capacity laws

I have a question regarding amoo belt capacities. Lets say hypothetically I have a belt over 10rounds that I owned before 2000. Does the ammo in the belt have to be live rounds?
    Could they be blanks?
Could it be fired shells (brass) linked into a belt over 10 rounds?

    thanks

If it was linked together before the mag capacity law took effect, it's legal. Even if it was only 11 rounds worth of links put together, you can now make a 200-round belt out of it. Re-linking is the same as repair - legal.

    Enjoy.

It's my understanding belts are different than links. A 100 round belt is a high-cap with or without ammo in it. So if you owned it pre-2000, you're good. Links on the other hand needed to be linked 11+ prior to 2000.

That is what I figured regarding the links, but does the ammo have to be live rounds?

i doubt it has to be live rounds. After all, that's like saying a 30 round AR mag isn't a high-cap mag because you loaded it with blanks...

            "bullet belts" i.e. punk fashion

I've seen things like this for sale in some local surplus shops....

Wouldn't these things technically be illegal to buy/sell here in CA? Couldn't you remove and replace the inert rounds with live?
