If you didn't know that then you shouldn't be UOCing. Actually scratch that...nobody should be UOCing at the moment. But yes, you can legally carry a loaded magazine. It is recommended that the magazine be carried exposed on a belt due to case law that could be construed to define your concealed magazine as a concealed firearm.

I have never nor do i intend to UOC. Just amazed that this is possible. Did not know the rules on this issue. So UOC means:
1. Open carried gun with unloaded mag inserted
2. Loaded mags on belt also open carried
Well, I learn something new everydayComment

Simply carrying a firearm in plain view, with loaded magazine on the hip or without one, may deter some nutter goblin from trying to pull something.
Second, not all crimes involve a millisecond reaction to save your life. IE: Some lone gunman walks into the store you're in and starts blazin. You may be on the other side of the store and have plenty of time to pop in the loaded mag that's on your hip. Now you're ready to roll, and, by the grace of God, potentially save lives.
Sure, it's not ideal like a CCW, but when it's nearly impossible to get licensed for one, it is the second best choice. I'd just make dang sure that you know that wherever you are, it is legal to open carry there. I dont have a specific example, but I know that there are some city limits (probably berkeley, san fran, etc) that have laws against open carry.Comment

I'm under the impression that since the state allows Open Carry, no city can infringe that right unless nearby a school or government buildingSimply carrying a firearm in plain view, with loaded magazine on the hip or without one, may deter some nutter goblin from trying to pull something.

Personally I wouldn't love my guns to much to have them taken & held while it is sorted out through the local courtssigpicComment

OK if you are open carrying you can legally have an unloaded magazine in the gun. If it is in a locked case it is legal too. The reason some prefer to have the empty magazine in the gun is to keep some guessing if it is actually loaded (read bad guy). Also it will supposedly keep dust out of the gun.
Someone said it gives you an extra step if you for some reason have to load said gun. Even having that extra step I can still drop the empty magazine and load in a magazine that is ready to go. Then again I am disabled so I don't run anywhere.
