    Import AR-15 to CA?

    Hey Guys,

I'd like to get a rock river LAR-15 complete lower and they do not ship to CA. In general, I'm seeing very high prices in california for similar complete lowers or AR's in general. I thought I might be able to have the lower shipped to an FFL in Nevada, pick it up, install a bullet-button prior to entering CA and then register it once back in CA.

So my questions are, could I even buy the gun from an FFL in Nevada if I'm a CA resident?

Would I be able to legally register the rifle once back in CA?

    Many Thanks!

You can, as a CA resident, can receive guns from other states. Federal however requires transfers of two unlicensed individuals who resident in different states to go through an FFL. In other words if you buy a gun off gun broker or another online site it it has to go through an FFL.

Your best bet is to either find a CA friendly dealer who sells the AR you want, or find a "middleman" out of state dealer who can accept an AW and configure it so it is no longer an "Assault Weapon".

A dealer can charge whatever he/she wishes for this kind of transfer. They range from $60 to upwards of $100.

Thanks Lorax3. If I can find a non-california FFL dealer that I can have the rifle sent to, it seems I could just spend the two minutes it takes to install the bullet button before I enter california. Will the state of california care that I imported the gun from out of state?

Can a Nevada dealer sell to a CA resident?

      Thanks!

Yes, A Nevada dealer can sell to a CA resident, the NV FFL however cannot give possession of the rifle to you in NV. The NV FFL will have to ship the rifle to a CA FFL where you will fill out the 4473 and do the DROS (in CA).

Either send a bullet button to the seller and have them install it; or send the to rifle an out-of-state dealer have them install a BB then have it sent into CA.

You need a NV DL to buy in Nv.I used to spend half my time in Vegas, and would turn in my Tx DL and get a NV. DL, takes about an hour, the office used to be on E.Sahara, I did buy 1/2 dozen guns, but That wasn't my purpose, you can't open a bank account w/o the Nv. DL and I didn't want to walk around with $20.000 cash on me....
