Private Reload Sale Across State Lines

I have an opportunity to purchase reloaded ammo from an individual in another state. He buys it from someone else who reloads it. I doubt either have any kind of license to sell ammo commercially. Is there any law that I will run afoul of if I buy the ammo and have it shipped into California?

I saw mentioned elsewhere that reloading ammo and selling it is tantamount to "manufacturing" it, which would require some sort of license. Any validity to that?

No license is needed to sell ammo commercially. You only need an FFL if you are manufacturing ammunition for sale. So if you buy reloads from somebody elso who bought the reloads from the guy who is running an illegal ammo manufacturing business, you won't get in any trouble. Well, not any legal trouble anyway. What kind of safety track record do this guy's friend's reloads have?

The person selling the ammo responded to a post of mine on another forum where I was inquiring where to find quality (but not match) ammo to use in my new AR15 (.223). The person said he had some, no need for it (got rid of the rifle), and that it exceedingly accurate and safe. But, don't know the person, or anything about it, other than what has been told to me. I don't think there is anything dishonest about it, but am wary of other people's reloads, unless I know them well. Selling for about $0.56 a round, shipped.

I wouldn't shoot reloads made by the friend of a stranger even if they were free, but that's just me. But there is nothing illegal about you buying them across State lines.

Not to mention you can do better than .56 a round for commercial ammo.

Where. I live near you, and if there is a store nearby with any, would like to know about it. - Phil
