Two things -
First, it's easy to torpedo the idea that eliminating firearms will somehow eliminate suicides. Two countries [Japan, England] both have no personal ownership of firearms [very few to none especially handguns] yet both countries have a high suicide rate despite no 'easy access' to firearms. So this fact support the theory that eliminating one method of suicide doesn't stop someone who is truly suicidal, it just makes them look for an alternate method.
Second - I loved this LA Times statement and the reply in the comment section
"It found that men were eight times as likely to shoot themselves over the 12 years after that first gun purchase than nongun owners."
To which 'mbsv' replied :
"You can always rely on the LA Times to post a meaningless truism to support their causes. Yes, people with guns are more likely to shoot themselves than people without guns because you cannot shoot yourself without a gun. In equal meaningless news, people without pools are less likely to be killed by drowning in a pool."
