    5 antigun bills brought out of suspense file

    Five bills that were in the assembly suspense file are supposed to be re-considered by the assembly soon.

    Gibson's AB 1673 (pieces of metal to be considered firearms) has been re-written with the help of comments people have made about the bill. That's why we have to careful not to help them write bills.

    Call the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Committee and ask that they "Hold ABs 1663, 1664, 1673, 1674, and 1695 on the suspense file!"

    • Asm. Lorena Gonzalez, Chair - 916-319-2080
    • Asm. Frank Bigelow, Vice-Chair - 916-319-2005

        4 of 5 Anti-Gun Bills Passed Assembly Today

        The 5 bills voted on today can be read up on from firearmspolicy.org

        I was listening to the live audio of the CA Assembly today and heard the following:

        AB 1663 was held in committee, which meant it did not pass. This bill would have classified all a semiautomatic centerfire rifles with detachable magazines as an assault weapons.

        All other assembly bills passed with technical amendments.

        • AB 1674 expands the 30-day prohibition to include long guns in addition to handguns and deletes the private party transaction exemption.
        • AB 1695 makes it a misdemeanor to report to a local law enforcement agency that a firearm has been lost or stolen, knowing that report to be false.

          Great, Gonzales, another arrogant fascist democrat pig with the mentality of a typical Jerry Springer guest.

              Meh. Not unexpected. We'll see if the governor signs them, and then the lawsuits begin. Remember, we have no real chance of stopping these from passing if they want to pass them. But bringing them to court can open up a whole different can of worms. And we could very well get some of the already unconstitutional laws struck down as a result. Remember, Heller is very specific about guns in common use. And it is going to be very difficult for them to legally declare one of the most common rifles completely verboten now that Heller is in place. The reason it hasn't been struck down before is that it didn't really go to court after Heller. Now that may be about to change. Remember that the political and legal landscape is dramatically different now than it was 17 years ago. And them trying to outlaw a weapon that has been legally purchased and is currently in VERY common use for home defense is likely to have the same results for them as a child stuffing a fork in electrical socket. The end result is not what they are likely to be expecting. Also remember that these laws aren't really written to meet constitutional muster. They wanted to undercut Newsom's ballot initiatives. That is their main drive this time. Not actually going after guns. They think getting these passed will hurt him politically, and buy them some support from their anti constituency. If they can get it to actually ban some guns along the way, it is just a bonus as far as they are concerned. What they don't realize is that our side has been gearing up for this for a long time, and I would be willing to bet that the various pro-gun groups already have their arguments ready, and will have all this in court in a matter of hours after the signing. And one of those unintended consequences that the anti-gun legislators haven't been bright enough to think of is what happens when they lose. I don't think that it will simply be the law being knocked down. I think that it could very well lead to other bad laws being repealed.

                All I can say is thankfully 1663 is dead (for now) so M1 Carbines, Mini 14 and M1A's are safe. That is a major win.

                  4 of the 5 passed appropriations committee

                  AB 1664, which will BAN all firearms with a bullet button;

                  AB 1673, which will CRIMINALIZE the possession of unserialized firearms parts;

                  AB 1674, which will BAN buying more than one firearm within a 30 day period;

                  and AB 1695, which will send gun owners HARASSING mailers regarding the myriad of laws they have already complied with.

                    Just called both offices and the assistant of Gonzalez said the bills in the suspense file had been voted on. Would not give me an answer if they're dead or not.

                        I would go down to the Crapital and dance in the gallery if the 9th Circus not only slapped them down for this hot mess, but tears up the 10 round limit; bullet button; "assault" designation; and other unconstitutional BS.

                        But I think I will keep breathing normally until that happens.

                          So AB 1664 means we have to register our BBed rifles as RAWs? Does that mean once registered we can remove BB?

                          Thanks

                            Are there more hearings, or the next stop is to governor brown's desk?
