Rabbit hunting in and around San Joaquin County

Any tips for rabbit hunting for a newbie? Areas? Time of day?

I'll be using either a Savage MkII BTV with 3-9x scope or a .177 air rifle with irons.

    Thanks in advance.

I live in Madera, there are rabbits everywhere. Everywhere on private property that is. Seems like their is just no public land unless you go up into the mountains. Off of 145 and 41 going to the casino is alot of area. Again all private property. I need to look into the legalities of going into the riverbed since it's been dry forever.

There is a ton in and around Del Peurto canyon.......I have seen most of them right before and after sunrise....unless it has changed in order to hunt that area you do need to have a permit issued by Stanislaus County for the exact day you will be up there.
