    Mossberg 500

I have bought a Mossberg 500 20ga with an 26in barrel about a few days ago from dicksporting which ill be hunting with soon. It'll be coming with 3 or 4 chock which I cannot remember but the reason I'm hear asking is that this is a first shotgun I own and which I'm just getting into. From friends like you guys and girls can the mossberg 20ga shot buckshot for defending while I'm hunting. What chock is the right one for buckshot and birdshot, Ill be hunting squirrel until the season ends and where I go there isn't anyone around or their. I do have a sidearm but just in case I don't have time to pull it out and I can just used that to defend myself. I'm not planning to kill it but by life or death ill used my sidearm.

Either Improved Cylinder or Modified is what I would use. You can carry a handfull of buckshot if you want for defense but it's really not necessary as the lead #6's you carry for squirrel will be a fine deterrent when you aim at somethings head.

You can use that. Lead #4's used to be the go to load for ducks/geese. I would go with the #6's. Plus if you encounter quail (and you are in a legal zone/season) you will be better off.
