I'm headed that way myself after work.

Thought I'd work the area around the little lake north of Dry Creek on Saturday.

Let me know what you find.

Mid-day = good. Usually fewer hordes in the woods.

I got screwed. I had one coming in from about 400 yards away. His gobble became closer and closer as time went on, until I heard boom, boom, boom.

No more turkey gobble after that. I figured either someone tried long shooting at him or someone was in the right place at the right time.

          Least I got out.

Rex, what time were you out there? I left about 1.

That sucks. I was there Monday/Tuesday and had a gobbler coming in on both days but couldn't make it happen.

I didn't leave the Bay area until 3:00 or so.

I"ll be out there tomorrow and maybe Sunday in a silver Escape with a Screaming Eagle magnet on the back.

              In Grass Valley tonight.

                Turkeys hate helicopters

Well, I saw proabably 40-50 birds, most on private property just outside the reserve.

Of the others, there was 1 solo jake ranged @ 364 yards and three solo hens in different places.

I spotted one small flock (8-10) moving just above the creekbed along Spenceville road. I jumped the fence and set up a couple of deeks ahead of where they were going. I could see a jake or younger tom checking them out from around 70 yards.

Just as he looked like he was coming in for a peek, there was a noise in the sky and he alerted.

As two low-flying helicopters passed, he and the whole damned lot of them ran like hell across the creek and up into heavier cover.

                Apparently, turkeys hate helicopters.

Right then, I wasn't all that fond of them either.

                Maybe next week.

Eagles and hawks can do the samething. Turkey hunting can be frustrating lol.

how was the non-turkey critter population looking? squirrel/rabbit/etc...

Thinking of going out this weekend but don't plan on turkey killins.

Wasn't paying much attention, I did see a squirrel or two but I can't remember where or which day.
