    Hunter safety course

So I finished my online portion of the safety course and am scheduled to do the 4 hour follow up on the 16th. I was wondering if anyone knew if I need to bring the rifle I plan to hunt with or a rifle to prove accuracy skills in order to get my certificate? I was told by a buddy of mine that he had to prove he was able to shoot accurately in order to receive his I was curious if it is still that way.

I passed the test in 1986 or 87 and have never heard of this expect for your post. He may be messing with you or did his in another state.

Although I think this wouldn't be a bad idea for a few people I know, I've never heard of it either.

          Confirmed

no firearm required in commiefornia. They are provided for you at the test location and safe handling and load unload demonstration is all that is required.

Congratulations on paying the proper fees to hunt the kings critters, and good luck on your written test. It is not difficult.

I did my hunter safety course in Nevada (with deer looking on as we did the shotgun safety portion) and it's good in California. No guns were allowed and no guns were required. We did some drills inside using a video projector to show shooting scenarios and a training rifle with a laser in the muzzle so participants could get at least some sense of what they might run across in the field.

I'd say, leave your rifle at home.

There's no shooting involved in the class. It's more of a regurgitation of what you learn online. You physically have to show them that you can handle a (fake) gun correctly and pass the written test.

As said, not needed. The instructor will have you demonstrate safe handling with a provided non functional or blue gun. Then, it's taking the written test. My daughter passed her class in June.

                  Good luck!

Nope. Never heard of a real gun being used for HSC. You should tell your friend tgat when you took the test you had an accidental discharge. Do not take a firearm with you.
