Best Binoculars?

I have an old pair of Nikon that are great and light for out in the field. I was watching a stalk from the vehicle, and I picked up a pair of Swarovski fixed 10X

with my pair I could see the critter and the grass. With the Swarovski you could see each blade of grass.


Marvelous glass but more quality than you need to spot critters.


I also have gotten older and eyesight is not the same as when I was 20-30....


For hunting, lightweight that you can bring with you is more important than the last bit of clarity.


Spotting a target at 1K, yes- you need that clarity for a 20-30 caliber hole in paper...

So you need rugged - but price point just ads versatility.

Weight limits a lot for hunting.

Pentax 8x 42 very wide (the 3d just pops!)

Second the Pentax, 8x56 DCF. Discontinued now. Big and heavy but in low light conditions I can see better with these than using my unaided eye. I used them on various hunts 30+ years ago.

I never used these at the range; for that, a spotting scope is probably better.

Consider the application before buying. For low light, the exit pupil on the glass should be at least the maximum size of the human eye pupil (5-7mm in low light). 56/8 = 7, so my Pentax DCF binoculars are good for that application.

I just got the sig Zulu 12x image stabilized binos and they are insane ! Image stabilization is a game changer

I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and looked through a pair of those. Absolutely blew my mind.

Yes, Pentax makes excellent optics. I have one of their spotting scopes. It’s better than Zeiss and Swarovski.

Swarovski and Zeiss make excellent glass but I think they are over priced for what you get. Pentax and Leupold are just as good but at a more reasonable price. I use Leupold. They have the best focusing/locking mechanism.

Your wrong. Early morning and dusk is when Swarovski shines. Spend the money. Missing an an opportunity at an animal isn’t worth being cheap. They make binos with firing solutions built in.

Whatever you get, image stabilized is the way to go. Game changer.

What I have read about binoculars. I have leopold mckenzies which work pretty good in brighter day.

but the low light situations is where that extra 1000 bucks makes the difference.
