      I completely disagree.

In an overall situation, given the choice of ONE - I go with a 10/22 or a shotgun.

Without refrigeratrion, the average person would make waste of big game. here in California, the deer aren't all that plentiful or close anyway.

Most people are going to be hunting birds, rats, chipmunks, racoons, possum, etc. A .223 will obliterate any of them.

You can't argue the versatility of a boomstick, and even zombies will be done for if you empty 25 rounds out of a 10/22. Either way, the ammunition is much cheaper than a battle rifle.

...not that a battle rifle is a bad idea.

I would go with a single shot with two or three barrels ( .22lr, .223rem, and 12 gauge)

I'd bring both calibers (AR & 308 bolt gun) along with a 22 for small game. I believe that if SHTF there wouldn't be much wild life left to hunt. So, in the end, the AR would be my go to weapon 90% of the time...for protection.

If it is just for survival, Id go with a 22 Magnum bolt gun. There is enough power to kill most game and 2 legged types if necessary. It also wont destroy the small game. You can carry plenty of ammo and a revolver chambered for the same round. They are not very noisy and pretty accurate up to 100 yards.

I'd go with my Remington SPR94 22/410 combination gun.

Shouldn't the title be best survival rifle caliber?

Just remember you may have to hike it out and if you load yourself down with all those guns and ammo...who's going to carry the tent, supplies, food and water? The movies is the movies, you need to think practically. One pistol or one light rifle and minimum ammo, is realistic. What are you and your family going to need after 7 days on the road... 10 pounds of food and water or 10 pounds of ammo. Your bugging out, not going to war...try carrying 2 rifles at the same time and hike 1 mile...better yet ask your wife to carry one for a mile and see how long before you want to shoot yourself

I agree with you for hunting. I'm a huge fan of the 10/22 (I have a safe full of customs) and the Marlin Papoose is another great chose because it's at least as accurate and is take down. On the other hand a Mini-14 is great because it doesn't look mean and it or a SU-16CA for self defense. Bottom line it's good to have both.

For a survival situation I would have to say a 10/22 will be in the must come gear.

22ll really has no power. If you can get in a perfect shot it may kill. I can say this by experience because when I was a kid 40 years ago I was shot twice at different times by 22lr. Once in the leg and once in the left sholder. Distance was about 50 yards on the leg and 60-70 on the shoulder and neither one knocked down a 100 lb kid. The leg shot penetrated about an inch and the shoulder about the same but hit bone. Didnt break the bone. The leg shot I just felt a slight tug and a burn. I didnt even know what happened until I went home and looked at the leg The shoulder did hurt and I knew I had been shot but did little damage.
