    Dispersed camping around Joshua Tree.

The wife and I are thinking about going out to Joshua Tree at the end of the month. All the park campgrounds are full and we hate being around a bunch of people anyway so are looking into BLM camping outside of the park. I'm reading that a couple of areas are basically overflow camp sites for the park so I will be avoiding those areas. Does anyone have any recommendations of areas that are nice and devoid of idiots but still not too far from the park? We will be camping out of our Jeep so just need a space for a tent. I'm not asking for your favorite spot, just a general area to look or more importantly, stay away from.

I realize the park books up 6 months in advance. This is a just last minute idea as we were just in Anza Borrego this past weekend and want to use our gear more before packing it all away again. The flowers were amazing in Anza. If we can't find a decent spot to camp or if the weather isn't cooperating, we may just drive home. Thanks.

I camp on BLM land just south of the 10. South of Box Canyon Rd. Get a BLM map and pick a spot. Plenty of spots there with no one around.

Whitewater Preserve is free camping, also free and a little closer to the park is Mission Creek Preserve (but Mission Creek might be temporarily closed because of storm damage to access).

The Wildlands Conservancy's Stone House Campground is situated in Mission Creek Canyon a mile and a half beyond the main preserve gate and parking area. The campground includes a spacious tent camping area, picnic tables, potable water, and flush toilet restrooms. Reservations are required. Camping
