URSA Shoots for December ‘17 - 2000 yards and counting

URSA Shoots for December ‘17 - 2000 yards and counting

The Unlimited Range Shooters Association (URSA) will have shoots on Sunday, December 17th in NorCal (Clear Lake/Upper Lake area) and in SoCal (Barstow area).

We start shooting at 2000 yards and those that shoot well enough (at least two) then shoot at min 2500 yards – moving out from there in roughly 500 yard increments, always based on shooter achievement at the last prior distance. All locally-legal firearms (rifles and rifle/pistols) are welcome. There are NO fees, we shoot on public land.

The NorCal contact is Lynn (rd-southwest@unlimitedrange.org). Lynn is our Regional Director (RD) for CA/NV. Detailed info for NorCal is usually posted on CalGuns at http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=327 .

More info about URSA and how shoots are conducted is at

http://www.unlimitedrange.org/operations.html Especially note FAQ 13, which describes course of fire.

Initial info re SoCal is provided below.

4WD, or AWD with decent ground clearance, is strongly recommended as the sand can get very rutted and deep.

We will have a target set up at 2080 and, quite possibly, at 2630 (at least a stand will be set up at 2630). Shooting at 2630, and beyond, is NOT guaranteed – that’s determined by how well shooters do at each distance.

November (our last SoCal event) was chilly, I expect December will be cold (in the low 40s – mid 50s) during most of the time while we shoot. Too early for wind forecasts. We'll see.

Those that sign up (cut-off is 6 PM, Wednesday the 13th) will get event-specific info a few days before the actual event date, tentatively the evening of the 13th. If I do not hear from you by the cutoff, you will not receive the event-specific info, which includes directions and final timing. Also, if I don’t hear from you, I will assume you are not planning on shooting, the headcount requirement may not be met, and the event may be cancelled – which is what happened three (3) months in a row earlier this year. Please contact me at webmaster@unlimitedrange.org Thanks.

NOTE 1: Going forward, URSA will be using an online program, Zoho Forms, to capture Liability Release and Build Sheet sign up data, and spectator/other Liability Release sing up data. Please use the links at the top of the Activity/Event Schedule page to sign up for this and future events (http://www.unlimitedrange.org/activi...0schedule.html). If you have any problem with the online form, please e-mail me.

NOTE 2: After extensive discussions with Lynn and some of our repeat SoCal shooters, FAQ 13 (course of fire), on the Operations page, has been substantially revised to reflect how SoCal events will be shot going forward. The new Standard Operation Procedure (SOP)/Drill now closely matches what NorCal is doing. The intend, after the extreme delays last month due to having 12 shooters (and, going forward, hoping for more shooters than our normal handful), is to significantly reduce the time required to run an event, thus providing shooters better environmentals when its their turn to shoot and reducing the “boredom factor” waiting around for your turn to shoot. If this revision becomes “problematic”, we will revisit it. PLEASE take the time to review FAQ 13.

Wind was brutal. Gusts were atleast 35 mph. Great experience shooting those distances in those conditions though!

Wow. I've never seen those streamers stretching out horizontally quite that tight. It looks like Kurt was close to building a desert igloo.

      Cheers,

Bill - Thanks MUCH for the pics, the first three will certainly be used - I already have a better one (which Fred previously sent) for the "two-ie".

Yea, wind was brutal. Managed to get a 5 for achievement/3K qualification, pretty proud of that given the conditions.

No problem on pics. Next month Vegas is gonna miss the match for the world record thing.

Awesome! What calibers are people making it out to the 2500+ mark with?

Last 2 matches I have hit enough in match to move on to next distance, but 2 shooters need to do it to move to second distance. I'm running 375 Cheytac. I think the conditions put a damper on things Sunday. My buddy Robert, also 375 Cheytac, hit 4 in qualifying round, but only got 2 in match. I'm pretty confident in any lesser wind we would have been moving on Sunday. He and I go back and forth in practice pretty regularly.

In good conditions the 338 Lapuas regularly get 4/10 at NorCal URSA 2054y FFP. But, the 375s rule at 2500+.

If I make it to the February SoCal URSA match; I'm gonna try to push the match out to 3K! My rig seems to be sorted this year. Still need to solve some shooter issues for the windy days.

                    Cheers,

                      So I shouldn't sell my 375?

That would be awesome! I will put my nose to the grindstone as well! Robert and I both got 5/10 at 2218 and I got 4 and he got 5 in our last practice. Our next distance is 2480 ish, but that would be cool to push the distance out there!

It's better for me if you sell those 375s...Unless your gonna build one of those 375-50s.

                          Cheers,

My personal best is 4/10 with the tiny (comparatively) 300 win mag. Still learning and improving though, haven't had the pennies to upgrade to the 375....
