    Barrel threading 9mm HK

I have a SW-5 HK94 clone and would like to have the barrel threaded 1/2-36.

Who can do it without removing the barrel which I think would be a pretty big deal?

    Why? You're making an AW.

thats the old cast receiver SW5 ones from wayyyyy back in the day. to have it done right it should be removed and put in a lathe. i wouldent reccomend trying to use a die on it to cut the treads, it may not cut straight and theres no guarantee sombody makes a flash hider that would fit that pattern

              Bingo. Old-school SW5.

Thanks for the recommendation, I was hoping it could just be cut the way people cut Saiga threads.

I have a 20-ton press from my AK builds, is it really as simple as pressing out a pin and pressing out the barrel?

Of course if I mess up my registered AW receiver I'm screwed so perhaps I should not cheap out on the job.

its not going out thats hard because you can punch out the barrel pin and use a brass drift and a 20ton press to push the barrel out the front. its going back in thats hard, you would have to supprot the trunnion from the inside and press from the front, unless you wanted to take off the tripple frame which is just a pin and some silver solder, then you can press from the back without many issues, but at that point the temp from the torch to melt the silver solder that holds the sight frame on will damage the paint. and you will need a refinish. so i guess the real question is, how much is the flash hider worth to you before the amount of work involved over comes its value??

also getting an old barrel pin hole to line up is a major PITA!!!! it would be easier to invert the barrel 180 and redrill the barrel pin hole and sight frame hole then trying to line those suckers up again and get it straight.

My real goal is not the threading but to install a side-folder stock. The A3 stocks do not work on the old cast SW5s. With the UMP-style side folder installed the OAL is slightly less than 26".

I am investigating whether one of the slip-on barrel shrouds would serve to extend the length enough to hit 26" -- that would sure be easier. I just have a conceptual problem installing something that has no function which is why I was looking at threading for a flash hider.

I recommend against the DIY kits where you are using a die and a spud.
I have had more than a few people send me their barrels after they hack-fu'd them...
