    Is my torque wrench broken?

When tightening scope rings, I hear no click noise which is supposed to indicate that correct torque has been reached. I don't want to strip the screw or deform my scope tube. How do I know if the wrench is accurate?

What brand is it? My Snap-On torque wrenches do not click at lower settings. They just kind of break over center. For the really low stuff I use a Dial type in inch pounds and I even have a screw driver type that measures in increaments lower than inch pounds(although I can't remember exactly at this time)
I'm no gunsmith but I work on Tractors up to $500,000 in value.

Easiest way would be to set it on a bolt you already know the torque for and give it a light twist. (Wheel lugs are usually set at ~80LBS if Im not mistaken?) To be safe you may want to set it a few pounds lighter and see if it clicks without turning???

Remember.... You have to HOLD the wrench "right". When I first started using one on DELICATE items with light torques I would find myself subconsciously supporting the ratchet head with my left hand.... BIG MISTAKE. It will NEVER click because adding that support changes physics of the twist. Forget about stripping... REAL easy to break a small bolt doing that. (I broke a sparkplug bolt off IN THE HEAD- )

you can take it in to have calibrated, ask your local mechanic who sells them their tools.

And as said before, at lower settings they dont always click. It just gives, but you should feel it.

Just to cover all the bases, dont forget that most bolts on firearms are in IN-lbs not FT-lbs. Huge difference.

Most gun work is in "INCH" pounds, not "FOOT" pounds.

Nevermind. Figured it out. Thanks for the input guys Looked at it and I found that the part the clicks was just jammed up. I unjammed it and it is now clicking again.

Anywhere from 65 to 145 depending on your car or truck.

I have a Seekonk inch-lb torque wrench analyzer if you want to check your wrench.

Torque wrenches need to be calibrated, all of them.

Take it to Wilmington instrument, have them look at it.
