    S & W 629-1 front sight insert

I'm talking to a fellow Calgunner about buying his Smith & Wesson 629-1. The front sight is missing the red insert. I looked on YouTube but couldn't find anything on replacing it. It doesn't look like it should be very difficult, does anyone have any experience with this. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

any pictures yet? There are a variety of S&W models.....

Is it the cross pinned in model?

You can cast a new ramp or order a replacement sight for a few bucks from S&W

He texted me some pictures and the rest of the sight looks fine. He said there isn't any other damage to the sight, insert just came off.

The 629-1 has a permanently affixed front sight so I don't think it's possible to change the whole sight.

It's a liquid pour-in sight insert. You can either buy a kit and do it yourself, or take it to an authorized S&W repair station and they will do it, most likely for free. I have had mine replaced twice in my 29 over the years, they did it free both times, although the last time was over 30 years ago. My 66 and 19 still have the original inserts in them.

If you want it 100%, call S&W. It will cost a few bucks plus shipping

The Midway USA video whos how to make a new insert with resin,

if the gun is tight, and you want it as a shooter, pick it up and get it fixed.

If it is a collector item... not my area
