If the ar has a piston upper, can you change the upper to a different one that uses DI?

You can move a complete top end on to your ruger lower.
You would not be able to use a gas piston bolt carrier with a standard gas tube upper.
You will need a standard bolt carrier for the standard upper.Randall Rausch
