    Best .308 brass?

I did a quick search here and see a lot of people recommending Lapua. I don't have enough brass currently and intend on buying more.

General load is a 175 Berger VLD, 44.2gr Varget, CCI BR2 primers. Have been reloading the Winchester brass from Black Hills spent ammo - but running low on brass.

    Recommendations?

Lapua... however, depending on what kind of shooting you do, unless its match/long range shooting with a built rifle you probably wont tell the difference. Some match shooters use winchester so it cant be all that bad. I use Norma with great results. Federal is too soft in my opinion and causes loose primer pockets fast.

I know about Federal being too soft. I like long range shooting - 600-800 yards generally. No matches YET - but still long range.

Then if its in your price range, go lapua. You will get better case life and consistence with it. Get as much of it as you can from the same lot. Sometimes case volume changes lot to lot which will affect velocity and accuracy.

I'd be using the LC match brass I have been storing for some time now But if you have the funds.. go with the Lapua...

            brass

I've found that Winchester brand is very uniform and long lasting. I have some brass being reloaded 10 times and still looks good and primer pockets are tight. Federal is POS, but if I pick it up for free at the range I use it to reload for my Vepr. Actually I'll pick any FREE brass in good shape to reload for my Vepr. It beats the heck out of that brass while ejecting, so I don't recover that brass and it goes to the brass recycling bucket at the range. LAPUA is the best brass in any calibre, if only it was a little cheaper.

I was told that winchester was good and that is what I use. I was also told to measure the thickness of the case walls and segragate them. I made a little stand and anvil and mounted a dial indicator. Set a stop so the indicator measures just ahead of the thicker metal of the head and turn the case and note the movement of the dial indicator. Differences of 1 or 2 thousands; this is the good stuff. Three thou is ok, 4 or more save them for fouling shots.
Lapua is suposed to be more uniform but more expensive. I guess you pay either way

Do u shoot a bolt action or a semi?

Lapua brass is absolutely THE BEST. But they are pricy, so, if u are doing a semi, forget about Lapua.... it is painful to loose those 50cents each brass....

                LC brass is good.

Win/BHA brass is good too. (BHA uses Winchester brass).

Most people will tell you FC brass is soft, but I personally use it too, and found no problems with them.

I think, the most important thing is to be CONSISTANT, just use 1 kind, 1 batch of brass... that way, you get 1 less variable in your reloading.

Im on my 5th reloading on my FC brass, and no loose primer pockets yet.

that being said, I plan on switching to Lapua brass and not looking back!

How do you guys rate the Austrian surplus Hirtenberger brass? That and the CMP M118LR is the only boxer primed 7.62x51 brass I have. I probably won't be reloading for 20 years or so, but I notice there is some Hirtenberger ammo for sale now in the classified section and nobody is jumping on it. Wouldn't that be a good way to pick up some cheap reloadable brass?

Lapua is the best but you can achieve lapua standards yourself. Lapua is known for unformity from the factory each piece of brass is pretty much on the money. However, you can do the same thing at home. LC is fine brass as well. Just take the time to sort it out and seperate the brass by weight and length. Then trim all to the same spec and bag them up as a set. Now you just made poor man's Lapua brass.
