Titan Reloading also has this cool tool where you pay $40 or so and it has several calibers built in. You put the ammo in the shell holder, raise the ram all the way up and this tool is like a bottle opener in that it has holes for different calibers and you put the correct caliber around the bullet and squeeze it, then lower the ram and the friction pulls the bullet. Pretty spiffy.

I have the Hornady cam lock bullet puller and it has worked great for me. I need to pull a bunch of 5.56 bullets, but the problem is I don't have the 22 caliber collet. I have searched the universe and they are nowhere to be found. Called Hornady and they are hopelessly backlogged on them. I also checked & the RCBS version doesnt fit.
I also have the kinetic puller, but dont like the mess it makes with powder.
So my next idea was either buying the 17 caliber or the next size up 243 caliber, which do appear to be in stock. Any ideas on somehow boring out the 17 caliber to fit 22 caliber bullets or maybe putting some sort of material/lining in the 243 one to make them fit/grip the smaller bullets.
I know we have some engineering types on here & was hoping maybe someone could come up with a good idea.
If you happen to have a Hornady 22 caliber collet you don't need, i'll over-pay for it :-)

I think I'm with sixgunner. Get a different manufacturer's collet puller. Leave it dedicated to 5.56.

I use the Forester with the hex head instead of the puller handle because I have a Forster Press and the press handle interferes with a puller mounted handle.

Once a collet puller is properly adjusted, than it doesn't leave marks either.

Actually this...Forster does have their .22 collets in stock. For $20 for their bullet puller, that is probably cheaper than I'd have to pay someone to ream out my Hornady Collet.

My 2 cents is the rcbs is the way to go. I use mine all the time.

yes much easier and faster w/ the cam lock vs the kinetic. Another point is that the kinetic will deform plastic bullet tips (ie AMAX), although I did read somewhere that you can put material in there to soften the blow. I havent left any marks on the 308 rounds ive pulled thus far with the cam lock.

You trying to save bullets and powder? I like kinetic pullers because they save the bullet from marks....if they are crimped it could be a pain. Once you get the hang of it two smacks on a 4x6 is all it takes in most cases...pour the pullet and powder out, on to the next case....

If you're doing a lot, the Hornady is way quicker than the kinetic. I have both and the only time I use the kinetic is when I do rounds I don't have the collet.

OP, get the 17 and grind out the inside diameter to fit the 22. I measured my 22 collect and it's .238" id.

Somebody with a small lathe and a dremel clamped to the carriage. I think it is heat treated, so a drill probably won't work.

You have to wonder about the supplier to Hornady, those things have been OOS for 15 months and they don't seem able to actually increase production; something exotic and never done before, like overtime or a second shift....

Guys I truly appreciate the offer to borrow but I need a permanent solution. I have a crap load of 223 bullets I'm going to be working with and need to have one at my bench full time

Where are you located? If you are close, you could borrow my RCBS puller and collet.

I don't know the proper term but maybe a CalGunner that's a machinist can help. You can get a collet that will match the diameter of the bullet that will fit on your press. There's a thread on arfcom in the 50 forum about it. One of the guys is a machinist and bought the collet for 50 BMG off eBay for like $5!!!

So if a machinist can help out with the proper size and all... you can look on eBay for one.
