    All the .223 heavy bullets.

I'm not trying to sell this at the moment (perhaps a group buy is a better method) but figured I'd ask what people though of the idea. It seems like a lot of people lately have 1:9s or other twists on either bolt guns or ARs and want to start shooting further but they are not sure which if any of the heavy bullets will actually prove shootable in their rifle. And as it's silly for each of us to buy twenty 100 packs of expensive target bullets just to test out five or 10 of them I thought I might try and buy a 100 pack of each of the heavy .223s I knew about and make sample packs of 10 bullets per type. I'd avoid anything over 82gr as the big 90s tend to be so long that there becomes a major trade off in bullet weight and FPS. I know there are guys shooting them in bolt guns out to 1k, but my suspicion is that if you are really testing the top edge of the cartridge then this sort of sample pack isn't for you. This would end up being around $60 per sample pack shipped for 200 bullets, 10 of each below. Not cheap but way cheaper than 100 of each. Thoughts?

EDIT: as this is more of an attempt at getting stuff to people for testing rather than making anything, it makes sense that this could be a group buy instead of any kind of selling situation. Would then need 9 other shooters interested.

    john,
my experience is with service rifles and take it for what its worth.we talked at coalinga and im sure i mentioned a 1 in 7 to 1 in 8 twist will shoot 80's out to a thousand, just turn your post down 5 turns.figure your velocity to be above 2700fps based on my hornady 75's with 24.5 varget at 2800fps.berger,hornady,sierra
,lapua.they all shoot!for me i prefer hornady amax.i think its the best cheapest bullet for 600yd line.the design is similar to a berger vld...just cheaper and shoots a min better than a sierra.
    see at the fall regional.

Joel? I actually started shooting the 80A-max and really like it (mostly because I'm lazy and my seating die setup for 77gr noslers put A-max 80 as just the right COAL); I shot the best 600 string of my life with them. Granted the winds were calm and I had figured some stuff out, but along with the price and the "good days stay with you" factor I'll keep shooting them.

I like playing though, and I figure I've got half of that list anyway so I could justify buying the other half if it was useful to other people to play around too.

I picked up a 600 and two 100 packs for nothing on another order. I'm happy to shoot them. Also traded for some 75gr HPBT just to have a backup unless I shoot out my nosler stock. Thanks for the dope, and the help at both state matches!

I know this probably belongs in the centerfire forum, but F that, I'm not posting anything over there.

What type of AR's are you guys shooting at these distances? I have a lower right now and am considering different uppers for it. It would be cool to put something on it that could shoot some distance.

I had my eye on another 14.5" but it would be fun to shoot some distance.

20" bbl is the ticket here (provides better velocities and velocity is the key downrange), 1:7 twist is mandatory for the heavies. Chamber it in .223 or .223 Wylde if you want best accuracy because these chamberings reduce bullet jump over a NATO 5.56 cut. Well cut muzzle crown is very important.

You cannot go wrong with a White Oak Armament upper designed for NRA Service Rifle or Varmint usage. They have 20" 1:7 ones in each style. Service Rifle is iron sights, Varmint style is flat top.

milotrain and i are shooting nra legal service rifle uppers for copmpetition ranging in distance from 200-600yds,with the occassional 1000yd match.most uppers of the type use match grade heavy barrel(20") from a quality manufacturer, match sights, match(adjustable)triggers for a min weight of 4.5 lbs, lead slug in the stock and handguard.
a complete upper can be had for $800-1000 depending on the builder.
white oak armament, compass lake eng, rock river arms are some that put the pieces together.for the new shooter i would recomend white oak .they are cheaper just because they will put a wilson barrel on unless you specify a krieger.the difference being the wilson will last 3000rds,vs 6000 for the krieger.but that is all relative to the shooters skill.
