    .223 brass sorting

I have a good quantity of once fired brass. I have sorted it my manufacture - Some PMC, Remington, Winchester, Federal and a lot of LC.

Is it worth sorting the LC brass further by headstamp or is all LC close enough and no further sorting is needed?

What is your brass sorting routine?

I'll be loading some general use 55 gr loads but also some 77 SMK for precision loads.

And yes, I am aware I will need to remove crimps from primer pockets.

    thanks,

The only reason to sort plinking ammo is that the case capacity is less on military cartridges due to thicker walls. Less case capacity will lead to higher pressure with the same powder load.

Just verify that your powder charge is within the min and max for both commercial brass and mil spec brass and you should be fine

For precision loads, you want 1 lot of brass
    Uniform primer pockets
    Uniform length
    Uniform case capacity

I would try two or three types of brass seperately to see what brass/ bullet/ powder / charge your rifle likes

I sort my LC by case weight, after resizing, trimming and chamfering. My goal is to group the cases by weight, assuming that similar case weight equals similar case volume.

          Thanks guys.

So I can combine all the different LC headstamps and then sort by weight?

I would use all of the commercial brass for your plinking loads

use the LC brass again by head stamp then by weight for your precision loads

some may say this is a little much but if I am trying to make the most down range accurate load as I can than I want to eliminate as many variables as I can on my end
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.
