Hornady LNL AP Powder Problem
Collapse

When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones." -
I've just checked Hodgdon website and it showed that they also have another similar powder, H4831 SC (shorter grain) to help flow through powder measure. I guess the one that I have is for handloading.
Problem solved?Last edited by mr2lor; 05-14-2012, 3:35 PM.Comment

The internal components of the Hornady powder measure will rust without lube or something. That's one thing I hate about Hornady, so many bare steel/cast iron/sheet metal parts.Very important! My dropper wasn't dropping consistent charges. It was constantly off by about 1-2 grains up and down. I scratched my head for a while because I followed the DVD exactly. What I realized is that you should not lube the dropped at all. The DVD says to use the Hornady One Shot to clean it out and lube it up. I found that the lube caused the dropped to drop very inconsistently. I took everything apart and used carb cleaner on it and reassembled it dry. It drops the EXACT charge about 90% of the time and the other 10% were 0.1gr over. Good enough for me!
Not many options since the powder measure internal parts need to be completely dry. Some people use automotive wax to try and stop rusting.Comment
