A friend gave me around fifty 9mm black talons. I was wondering if these are more valuable than other ammo. Any info would be appreciated thanks.

They have a pretty good collector's value, so don't shoot them.
Their performance however, is a bit lacking compared to more recent loads from the major manufacturers (Ranger-T, HST, gold dot, a few others)"Any unarmed people are slaves, or are subject to slavery at any given moment." - Dr. Huey P. Newton -
Black Talons used to be the hottest thing since Mt Vesuvius when they came out 20 or so years ago. They pretty much instantly got a reputation as cop killers, of course. I think they were outlawed in some places. But they've been passed by by modern bullet design. And for once I agree - if the box of 50 in intact, don't shoot it - sell it or sit on it.Comment

I sold mine for 50 a box (of 20). They got a bad reputation and were crucified by the media... The Black Talon was portrayed as having a Telfon coating that could penetrate bullet proof vests, which it did not... think is was some sort of oxide coating which protected the rifling of the barrel.
The Winchester Black Talon production stopped (I dont think they were officially banned/ outlawed). They were used by the Long Island Railroad mass murder and Winchester/ Olin was sued over the design of the bullet... it was subsequently thown out.
Funny part was that Winchester rebranded (very similar) the bullet under the name, Winchester SXT... (Same Xcate Thing).Last edited by jvpark; 02-26-2012, 6:07 PM.Comment
