a 17 fireball? I hope you have tiny fingers.. I have enough trouble loading .223's with 55 fmjbt's.. I can't imagine loading 25-40 gr hp's..

I'm incredibly slow. I load 10mm using a Lee hand press and hand weigh each charge. But I agree with everyone else, what's the rush! It's relaxing! Sportsman's Warehouse had some powder in stock so I just did a bunch of hot loads the other day

That's an excellent way to start reloading. My first box of 50 took me something like four and a half hours. Next one took an hour and a half, and it just got better from there. It is calming and kinda therapeutic. Those Challenger presses have made a whole lot of very good ammunition over the years, of various types.

I have been reloading for a very long time. I have never saved any money when figuring up the total spent in any/each year. But I do shoot much more and I shoot hard to find/costly cartrigdes also I would not shoot if not reloading.

How much money did you save on reloading ?

I want to start reloading but its a large start up cost. So I just don't know.

For some shooting match rifle rounds, you can save money after a few hundred shots. For others, you spend the same amount of money but you shoot more.

I suppose you save a little in reloading, much more if you buy in bulk. My main reason for reloading, only one vendor makes the loads that I need. The second reason, at least for rifle, is I can get better accuracy than factory loads.

I think you'll find the HMR really nice for Wyoming dogs. I still have a few bricks of CCI 22lr that I picked up for $1 when my local K-Mart closed. Squirrels play havoc with irrigation, not to mention the problem they cause cattle ranchers. Good luck with your shoot

Do not have a 17HMR but would like to get a 17Fireball. Plan to bring a 22RF. Have about 30,000 rounds of 22RF bought when it was $9.97/550. Will not take all of it though.
Squirrels are the one animal I love to shoot just to kill. I was raised on a ranch that had them and had to deal with the problems they caused on irrigated hillsides.

If it's where I think it is, I'd pack a good 22lr for the closer shots and for the Wyoming trip, the 17HMR is a pretty popular round. And, they both pack smaller, lighter and quieter

where I *think* divernhunter is going for squirrels is where I go and is a target rich environment (the ground moves). Spend a week there and you'll need 3500 rounds easy. Last time I was where he's probably going I rounded up around 175 in 4 hours without going outside 200yrds. I only brought 300 rounds that day and winds were pretty heavy. He's right to bring 3500 rounds.

Northern Ca for a week or more of shooting then Wy for PD's. Yes I do miss a few, especially over 200yards with my 223 Encore pistol. Pretty good shot with the 223 Rem varmit rifle and the 204Rger in a Savage. The standard barrel 6mm Rem in a tang safety ruger heats up fast so it does not get as much use. There are many targets. I hate to run out of ammo and have to cut the trip short.

That is where I do all my reloading---Spare Bedroom which is now Computer, gun safes and reloading room. Half of the 2 car garage is for ammo,brass,bullets,dies,extra trimmer,case cleaner stuff,gun cleaning stuff,gun cases(hard and soft) target holders,chrono and other shooting/hunting stuff.

Better put a heater and AC in the garage. I foresee myself spending ALOT of time in there from now on.
