    Possible to make FMJ's

I have been thinking about reloading and I have seen that there are casts for making lead bullets. Unfortunately I have a glock which means NO unjacketed bullets.
Is it possible to make jacketed rounds? I tried to search the internet, but with Full metal jacket and other key words you just end up with results for the movie.
I have no clue what the process is for jacketing a round. I assume its similar to chroming?

I am thinking along the lines if gun laws ever got more restrictive or SHTF scenario the ability to make my own bullets might be handy, but not sure its possible.

You cant cast them they have to be swaged. Swaging is an entirely different process than casting, you basicly have a press that compresses the lead and jacket into the proper shape.

heres a link to get you started

its gonna cost you about $1000 to get started with basic equipment, plus you would need to use lead wire which is difficult and expensive to come by in california. Shipping the lead makes it not worthwhile because of the weight

The good news is swaging is vastly superior to casting, swaged bullets are more consistent and acurate as a whole, not to mention the option of jacketing them. You can use a variety of materials for the jackets from copper tubing to .22 lr cases.

I probably will at some point, but was curious what the process was to make jacketed bullets, because I had no clue how they made them.

You might find this interesting. I would personally just buy plated.

              Check out this link: Swaging

You do not have to use lead wire. It is possible to cast the little "wire" slugs to the cut length you would need and then just pop them in your swaging press.
Very pricey for the press and tooling, though. Much cheaper to just buy an aftermarket barrel as previously mentioned. However, I don't think it gets any cooler than making your own FMJ in this hobby.

I dunno.. I make 40 cal JHP's with a $150 swage die, A Rock chucker, and a bunch of 9mm brass and unsized cast 9mm bullets... they shoot just like factory jacketed bullets do..

There you go Sargenv. Again the cost is not as high as most think. You could do this for around 200 bucks. With the same RCBS=Rock Chicker Bullet Swage press that you already have.
