    Winchester Silvertips for home defense

I found an old box of 9mm 115 grain Silvertips I bought back in the early 90's (from Siegle's, remember that place?)

Back then it was usually either Federal Hydra-shok's or Winchester Silvertips you would find on the shelves of the stores. I have since then replaced my home defense with Gold Dots (124gr) and/or Federal HST (124 gr).

But I notice even now I still see Silvertips being sold online and at the local brick and mortar stores. Since technology has improved over the past 20 years, I am wondering - who still uses Silvertips for home defense, and out of curiousity why?

If they'd kill a perp then, they'll kill a perp now.

These are the very same bullets that "worked as designed" in the infamous Miami shootout.

I think they would work as advertised for home defense. It is really easy to get worked up about the latest, big daddy mofo round but the reality of the situation is:
        A) Its doubtful you will ever be in a situation to use a home defense round. Most cops go their entire career without shooting a round at a perp.
        b) Most first time gun fight situations result in the freeze up of the shooter (buck fever) and IF rounds are fired the shooter blood pressure is completely spiked and he would be lucky to hit an SUV from ten feet away.
Long answer short, they would be my choice rather than spending $50 bucks for the newest home defense rounds advertised in "rootin' tootin' shootin' magazine".
